The ERC is spearheading this Beach One Pavilion project.
You may have noticed there’s a new race on the ERC calendar this month.
The Run for Shelter 5K is a run/walk at Presque Isle State Park (Beach No. 1, of course!) on Saturday, May 26. The race is being directed by ERC President Dave Comi & ERC Merchandise guy Rick Godzwa. I asked Rick a few questions about the Run For Shelter.
Why are you doing this race?
The race has one main goal, to raise money for the Beach One Pavilion. It’s a special, one-time-only race. Read more about the pavilion project & ERCs involvement in it here.
What is the premium?
It’s a grab-bag – come early to get the best stuff! For the $15 entry fee every participant will get to pick from left-over merchandise from past races or some ERC merchandise. Each participant will also get an entry to the Beach One Pavilion Fund Raffle.
Raffle?
Yes, raffle tickets are $1 (donation) each and are to benefit the Presque Isle State Park Beach One Pavilion Fund. We’ll drawn the winners on May 26, 2012 after the Run for Shelter 5K
1St Prize – One Year YMCA Family Membership
2nd Prize – $250 Gift Certificate to Achilles Running Shop
3rd & 4th Prize – An Erie Runners Club Jacket
5th – 10th Prize Entry to your choice of any Erie Runners Club event in 2012
11th & 12th Prize An Erie Runners Club Beach Towel
Are there T-shirts?
I will also have t-shirts that can be ordered at $10.00 each. It’s a nice shirt with a drawing of the Beach One Pavilion on the front. Natural color (tan) with one-color print. There will be nothing else on the shirt — no sponsors or logos.
Under the drawing, it will just say, “Beach One Picnic Pavilion Presque Isle State Park Erie, Pennsylvania”
Are there awards?
Awards are also a rummage. The last participant to cross the finish line will get their choice of award then
second from last and so-on until we run out of awards. If you have any awards just collecting dust that you want to
get rid of contact me (Rick Godzwa) at 814-459-8381 or e-mail at rgodzwa@neo.rr.com.
When will the shelter be started?
I do not know, we still have a long way to go. If every ERC member were to donate just $100 we would not have to do any other fund raisers but…
We are going to try to do a ground breaking the morning of the Run for Shelter to try to get some publicity.
