Niagara Falls Women’s Half Marathon
Aboot (you have to say that with a Canadian “o” as in Ah-boot) 15 Erie-area runners headed across the border to do the inaugural Niagara Falls Women’s 1/2 Marathon in Niagara Falls, Canada. There were about 1,000 in the race and, for a first-time race, there were surprisingly few snafus and it was really well organized.
Erie was well represented with all of us doing well (even a couple P.R.s, I think) and Robin Smith and Barb Filutze even took home some hardware — Robin placing 3rd in her age group and Barb 2nd. This is no easy feat in a large woman’s race! Local runners included: Myself, Barb, Robin, Jan Comi, Cyndie Zahner, Jessie Zahner-Grieshober, Suzanne Carstarter, Teresa Wigham, Julie Roussos, Dottie Mahoney, Laura Lewis, and Leann Parmenter (who did her FIRST half in 2:06!).
I’ll do a full race report later today or tomorrow. Sadly, I have few photos (or happily depending on how you stand on that) because my camera battery was nearly dead when we got there.
For now, here’s a link to results.
Buffalo Stampede Trail Run
Several Erie-area runners, including Pat Krott and Cynthia Johnson, participated in the Buffalo Stampeded Trail Run on Saturday. This was no tow-path trail run but a grueling (mostly single-track), hilly jaunt with stream crossings and a tunnel. There were three distances available — 5 mile, 14.4 mile and 19.4 mile.
It doesn’t look like results are up yet, but when they are, they’ll be here.
Armed Forces 5K
Locally, the Armed Forces 5K was held on Saturday at PISP, but I’m not finding results anywhere. When I do, I’ll post them here.
