LAKERS EXTRA: Agost nets 2nd hat trick at 2010 Olympics

Mercyhurst College women’s hockey forward Meghan Agosta scored her second hat trick of the 2010 Winter Olympics to lead the Canadian National Women’s Hockey Team over Sweden, 13-1, on Wednesday evening at UBC Thunderbird Arena.

Agosta, who tallied her third Olympic hat trick dating back to the 2006 games, totaled five points for the second time this tournament. She now has an Olympic-leading eight goals and 12 points.

In a rematch of the 2006 gold medal game, the Canadians unleashed 12 goals through the first two periods en route to their third-straight double-digit victory. Agosta did most of her damage early on, scoring the game’s first goal and adding two assists in the opening period. She added two more tallies in the second as Canada scored seven goals in a span of 10 minutes and 37 seconds.

With the victory, Canada finishes the preliminary round with a 3-0 record and advances to play the loser of the Finland/United States match-up on Monday, Feb. 22 at Canada Hockey Place.
