Mitch Gaulton will serve as the Erie Otters’ seventh defenseman in tonight’s game against the Owen Sound Attack at Tullio Arena. He had a few shifts, but still managed a plus-2 rating in the Otters’ 8-2 win.
Gaulton, who injured his right elbow during a Jan. 26 practice, was scheduled to be reevaluated earlier today by Dr. David Babins, the Otters’ orthopedic surgeon. Since he’s listed in the lineup, that presumably means Gaulton is cleared to play. He hasn’t played since Jan. 24 against Guelph. He was the Otters’ leading scorer on defense with four goals and 27 points before the injury.
In other news, the Otters have scratched physical winger Brett Appio for tonight’s game. The Attack have scratched top forward Joey Hishon with an undisclosed injury. He joined veteran winger Jason Wilson on the injured list. Overage winger Grant McGee and rookie defenseman Curtis Crombeen also were scratched.
