UPDATE: Otters’ Gaulton could be cleared Wednesday

Erie Otters defenseman Mitch Gaulton (right elbow) could be medically as cleared as early as Wednesday and resume skating Wednesday afternoon.

Dr. David Babins, the team’s orthopedic physician, will reevaluate Gaulton’s injured elbow Wednesday.

“We’ll see if the doctor says if he can go play,” coach Robbie Ftorek said. “He can’t do anything until he gets the clearance from the doctor.”

Gaulton, a New York Rangers’ unsigned draft pick, suffered the injury in practice Jan. 26. The following week, he headed home to Grimsby, Ontario, to rehabilitate with his personal trainer and physiotherapist. He returned to Erie last weekend.

“He looks good. He lost some weight. He feels good,” Ftorek said.
