Senior captain Meghan Agosta and junior Hillary Pattenden of the third-ranked Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team claimed two of three College Hockey America weekly honors this week, as Agosta was named player of the week while Pattenden was tabbed goaltender of the week.
Both players helped the Lakers sweep St. Cloud State by the scores of 9-1 and 6-1 in their first series of the season. Agosta scored two goals and added four assists as the Lakers totaled 15 goals for the first time since
November of last season. Agosta, in her first games back from the Olympics, netted three points each night. In Friday’s contest, she achieved yet another milestone for her career, as she dished out her 100th career assist to join teammate Jesse Scanzano as the only Mercyhurst players to accomplish the feat.
Pattenden earned both wins in goal, leading the Lakers to their first two-game sweep of St. Cloud State since the 2002-03 season. The Surrey, B.C., native made 12 saves and allowed one goal through 40 minutes in game one before stopping 19 of 20 attempts over a span of 60 minutes.
Mercyhurst continues non-conference play this weekend with a two-game series at Maine, beginning on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
