LAKERS UPDATE: Mercyhurst women hosting Skate for the Cure

The No. 4/5 Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team hosts its annual Skate for the Cure event this weekend when it takes on College Hockey America foe Syracuse at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers, who will be wearing pink breast cancer jerseys in honor of the event, will take on the Orange on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

Founded during the 2006-07 season by College Hockey America, Skate for the Cure is a league-wide initiative that involves its member institutions – Mercyhurst College, Robert Morris University, Niagara University, Syracuse University and Wayne State University – dedicating a game or two out of their schedules towards raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research.

Fans attending Friday’s game will have a chance at winning an autographed pink jersey through a raffle set up at the front entrance.

Tickets are $5 for one ticket. All proceeds from the raffle, as well as ticket revenue from both games, will be donated to a charity at the 2011 CHA Championship, hosted by Syracuse this March. For tickets, please contact the Mercyhurst Ice Center at 824-2277. All fans attending the games are encouraged to wear pink in support of the event.
