Erie Otters forward Dane Fox confirmed today that he did break what he called the top bone in his left foot in a swimming accident a little more than a week ago. Fox’s foot hit a rock while doing a cannonball into what he discovered to be shallow lake water.
“I knew something was wrong,” recalled Fox, who was spending some down time with several teammates at forward Connor Brown‘s family cottage in Ontario.
But Fox said he won’t need surgery, since it was a clean break. He has 3 to 5 more weeks of recovery time, but he’s hopeful to be ready for the start of the regular season. He already can some put some weight on his foot. “It could have been worse,” said Fox, who also missed valuable training time earlier this summer after having his tonsils and adenoids removed.
Fox did feel bad about one thing, though. His absence made teams uneven for the players’ impromptu yet highly competitive volleyball games. Otherwise, Fox said, “it was a fun time.”
