OTTERS UPDATE: Former Otters teaming up at Queen’s Univ.

Former Erie Otters Kris Grant and Jordan Coccimiglio will play for Otters alum Brett Gibson at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, next season, the school announced today. Grant and Coccimiglio are part of part a nine-player recruiting class that includes Kevin Bailie, a former goaltender for the London Knights and Oshawa Generals.
Grant, a 20-year-old defenseman, spent two seasons with the Otters from 2010-12. Last August, club officials told him to remain at home in the Kingston, Ontario, area instead of attending training camp after Grant requested a trade. He played for the Kingston Voyageurs of the Ontario Junior A Hockey League this past season.
Coccimiglio, a 20-year-old forward, had five goals and 13 points in 98 games for the Otters from 2009-11 before released by the club midway through the 2010-11 season. He spent the rest of that season with the Barrie Colts. He played for the OJHL’s Oakville Blades in 2011-12 and the Truro (Nova Scotia) Bearcats of the Maritime Junior Hockey League.
Gibson, 33, had 33 goals and 71 points in 94 games for the Otters from 1996-98. He has coached at Queen’s for the past eight seasons.
