OTTERS UPDATE: Inside look at the Otters’ home schedule

Here’s a breakdown of the Erie Otters’ 2013-14 schedule …

* Start with five straight road games, including the Sept. 20 opener in Guelph
* Play their home opener in a newly renovated Erie Insurance Arena against North Bay, which moves from Brampton this coming season
* Play 24 of 34 home games on weekends (15 Saturdays, 8 Fridays, 1 Sunday); also play home games on Wednesdays (5), Thursdays (3), Monday and Tuesday (1 apiece); longest home stand is 6 games (Nov. 8-19)
* Have several what they call “specialty games” besides their annual Thanksgiving Night game (Nov. 28 against Guelph, which ends an 8-year stretch of playing Belleville on that night)
—- Veterans Day game vs. Niagara (Monday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.)
—- Kids Day “Hockey Hooky ” game vs. Kitchener (Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 11 a.m.)
—- New Year’s Eve game vs. Kitchener (Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 6 p.m.)
