UPDATE: Liambas, Bassin met with OHL’s Branch this morning

Erie Otters winger Michael Liambas met with OHL commissioner David Branch at 11 a.m. today to discuss Liambas’ hit on Kitchener defenseman Ben Fanelli, said Shawn Waskiewicz, Otters assistant general manager of administration.

The meeting at the league’s Scarborough, Ontario, office lasted about an hour and included Sherry Bassin, Otters managing partner and general manager. Now Liambas’ future lies in Branch’s hands. For now, Liambas remains indefinitely suspended for a hit in Friday night’s game in Kitchener that left Fanelli with skull, facial and orbital bone fractures and a laceration above his eye.

“Their decision won’t be made for a couple of days,” Waskiewicz said. The Otters’ next game is set for Friday against Niagara.

“Sometime between now and Friday, we will know what the suspension is,” Waskiewicz said. “Nobody will be saying anything from our end until we find out what the suspension is.”
