Nardo Nagtzaam

Mercyhurst junior forward Nardo Nagtzaam collected an Atlantic Hockey Association award for the second straight day.
He was named the conference’s player of the month for February after totaling seven goals and an assist in eight games this past month. Nagtzaam, who captured AHA player of the week honors Tuesday, had at least one point in six of those games. He has eight goals and 15 points in 10 games since returning from a lower-body injury. He has 11 goals and 21 points in 20 games overall this season.

Mercyhurst junior forward Nardo Nagtzaam shared Atlantic Hockey Association player of the week honors with Bentley junior forward Alex Grieve after totaling two goals and two assists in a 1-0-1 weekend against Robert Morris.
Nagtzaam tied a career high with three points (goal, two assists) in a 5-5 tie Friday and added a goal in a 5-2 win Saturday that ended the Lakers’ regular season. He has eight goals and 15 points in 10 games since returning from a two-month layoff with a lower-body injury.

PITTSBURGH – The Mercyhurst men’s hockey team will head into the Atlantic Hockey Association playoffs on a high note.
The Lakers completed the regular season Saturday night with a 5-2 victory over rival Robert Morris at RMU Island Sports Center. Now the Lakers (19-12-7, 17-4-6 AHA) earn a bye through next weekend’s first-round series as the regular-season champion and No. 1 seed.
Jordan Tibbett led the way for the Lakers with a 48-save performance, as the Colonials outshot Mercyhurst 50-27.

RMU (13-16-5, 13-9-5) sliced the Lakers’ lead in half at 2-1 on Colin South‘s goal with 7:08 left in the period, only to have the Lakers respond with O’Donoghue’s second goal of the game at the 15:21 mark. RMU moved within a goal again at 3-2 on Cody Wydo‘s goal 9:13 into the third period. But Mercyhurst capped the win with Nardo Nagtzaam‘s goal with 3:16 left and Trent Frey‘s first goal of the season with four seconds left.

The Mercyhurst men’s hockey team needed a better effort to open some breathing room in the tight Atlantic Hockey Association standings.
The first-place Lakers made it happen behind a three-goal third period in a 4-1 win against runner-up Bentley in front of 1,817 fans at Mercyhurst Ice Center Saturday night.
With a victory in the key two-game series between the conference’s top two teams, Mercyhurst (15-10-5, 13-2-4 AHA) has taken a four-point lead over the Falcons (13-9-4, 11-4-4) with eight games left. The line of Kyle Cook, Nardo Nagtzaam and Kyle Dutra led the way with three goals and five assists. Cook scored two goals – his sixth and seventh of the season – while Nagtzaam had a goal and two assists, including the go-ahead goal 4 minutes, 33 seconds into the third period. Dutra added three assists. Meanwhile, Jordan Tibbett stopped 37-of-38 shots to earn his first win since beating Connecticut 4-1 in the AHA semifinals last March.
The evening opened with a pregame presentation of the Stanley Cup to Mike Folga, the Lakers’ longtime athletic trainer and equipment manager who was the equipment manager on the New York Rangers’ 1994 NHL title team. He never had his day with the Cup because of a schedule change and a change in the Rangers’ management team.
