What to expect: Mercyhurst returns to Rochester for the conference’s final four for the third straight season. The Lakers lost to Air Force 5-2 in the 2012 semifinals. They followed a 4-1 semifinal win over Connecticut in the 2013 semifinals with a 7-2 loss to Canisius in the championship game. … The top-seeded Lakers reached the semifinals with a two-game sweep of No. 8 Holy Cross, which included their first come-from-behind win of the season and first overtime victory since December 2012, in the best-of-three quarterfinal series last weekend at Mercyhurst Ice Center. … The winner of today’s game meets the winner of the second semifinal between No. 5 Robert Morris and sixth-seeded Niagara in Saturday’s 7:05 p.m. championship game. … The Lakers are unbeaten in their last eight games (6-0-2). … They lost two of three games to Canisius in the regular season. Mercyhurst lost only four AHA games overall. … Canisius has won three of the last four meetings and four of the last six with the Lakers. … These rivals have split their last eight playoff matchups. … Junior F Matt Zay (17 goals, 25 assists, 42 points) and senior F Daniel O’Donoghue (14-27-41) are Mercyhurst’s first tandem to reach the 40-point mark since Steve Cameron, Scott Pitt and Matt Pierce in the 2008-09 season. The Golden Griffins rallied from a 4-1 deficit to beat Bentley 5-4 in double overtime in Game 2, and then won 3-2 in Game 3. … They have rebounded from a 1-4-1 record to end the regular season. … Senior F Kyle Gibbons leads the team with 15 goals and 37 points. … Junior F Mitch McCrank has 14 points in his past 15 games, including all three goals in the Game 3 win over Bentley. … Sophomore F Ralph Cuddemi, a former Erie Otters draft pick, is second on the team with 28 points (13 goals, 15 assists). … Senior G Tony Capobianco has a 2.75 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.

What to expect: Mercyhurst has clinched the Atlantic Hockey Association’s regular-season title – the first in program history – as well as the No. 1 seed, a first-round bye and home-ice advantage in the best-of-three quarterfinal round in the upcoming conference tournament. … Robert Morris stands fifth in the standings with 30 points, one behind third-place Air Force and Connecticut and two behind runner-up Bentley, entering the regular season’s final weekend. The Colonials can clinch one of the three remaining first-round byes, as well as finish as high as the second seed. … The Lakers are unbeaten in their last four games (3-0-1) and 9-3-3 in conference play in the second half, while RMU has won nine of their last 13 games (9-2-2). … The Lakers and Colonials tied 5-5 on Dec. 14 at MIC in their first meeting of the season. … The Lakers are without junior F Matthew Zay (lower body), their leading scorer with 16 goals and 40 points, and freshman D Philippe Drouin (upper body). … Junior G Jimmy Sarjeant, who is unbeaten in AHA play with a 14-0-4 record, will start tonight, while redshirt junior Jordan Tibbett will start Saturday. … Junior F Cody Wydo (21-17-38) and sophomore F Zac Lynch (16-18-34) lead the Colonials’ offense. … Sophomore G Terry Shafer has a 13-13-4 record, 2.81 goals-against average and .919 save percentage this season.
