Senior forward Kaleigh Chippy scored a pair of power-play goals, including the go-ahead score midway through the third period, to lead the Mercyhurst women’s hockey team to a 2-1 win against Syracuse today in College Hockey America’s opening semifinal at Mercyhurst Ice Center.
The top-seeded Lakers (23-7-4) advance to Saturday’s 3 p.m. championship game against No. 3 Rochester Institute of Technology (18-15-3), a 4-1 winner over Robert Morris in tonight’s second semifinal at MIC.

Mercyhurst has announced ticket prices for this weekend’s College Hockey America Tournament games at Mercyhurst Ice Center. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students with valid identification, and are available one hour before the start of the Lakers’ 4 p.m. game against Syracuse.
No complimentary tickets will be handed out at the gates, and president’s cards won’t be accepted.

Mercyhurst sophomore forward Jenna Dingeldein was named College Hockey America’s player of the week for totaling two goals and five points in the Lakers’ two-game sweep of College Hockey America foe Rochester Institute of Technology at Mercyhurst Ice Center this past weekend. She matched her season with three points (goal, two assists) in a 5-1 win Friday, and then added a goal and assist in a 5-2 win Saturday to improve her season totals to 12 goals and 30 points in 29 games.
In other news, the Lakers (19-7-3) rose two spots to eighth in the latest USCHO.com Division I poll, which was released Monday. They earned 37 voting points to move ahead of CHA rival Robert Morris (21-6-3), which remains ninth with 24 points. The Lakers are ranked among the top eight for the first time since being picked seventh with 65 points in the preseason poll Sept. 23. They also have opened a three-point lead over the Colonials in the conference standings with four games left.
Minnesota (28-1-1) remains No. 1 with all 15 first-place votes and 150 points. Wisconsin (23-3-2), Cornell (18-3-4), North Dakota (17-7-4) and Clarkson (21-4-5) comple the top five, followed by Harvard (18-3-3), Boston College (19-4-3), Mercyhurst, RMU and Quinnipiac (17-5-8). Syracuse, another CHA school, received one vote.

Mercyhurst junior Amanda Makela was named College Hockey America’s goaltender of the week for the sixth time this season after stopping 57-of-60 shots in the Lakers’ two-game sweep of Syracuse this past weekend. She has a 2.03 goals-against average, .925 save percentage and five shutouts this season.
