The Summer Huddle – Sharpsville

Sharpsville Blue Devils

Coach: Paul Piccirilli
2008 overall record:
2008 league record (place):
5-3 (fourth in Region 1)
Playoff results:
Lost in the quarterfinals of the class A District 10 playoffs 49-27 to Saegertown
Top players lost:
RB/CB Josh Taylor, C/LB Andrew Miller, C/DT Tom Weisen
Top returning players: HB/LB Nathan Titus, QB/LB Matt Totin, FB/LB Marcus Llewellyn, WR/S Chad Piccirilli, QB/DE Frank Joseph
Key games: Sept. 19 vs. West Middlesex, Oct. 9 at Mercer
Outlook: Sharpsville had a solid season in Region 1 last season. The Blue Devils finished fourth in the region only behind the three teams who were co-champions (Farrell, Mercer and Linesville). Their only losses in the region came against those three teams. The Devils return their leading rusher in Nathan Titus. He ran for 713 yards and six touchdowns last season and was a second-team all-region selection at linebacker. The team’s second-leading rusher, Josh Taylor, graduated and was a first-team all-region defensive back. Andrew Miller was also a first-team all-region defensive selection at linebacker, but he also graduated. Back at linebacker with Titus was fellow second-team, all-region defender Matt Totin. There still is a solid foundation for this season’s team. The Blue Devils didn’t throw the ball much, but their quarterback, Frank Joseph returns. Chad Piccirilli, the team’s leading receiver, also is back. Sharpsville faces a big hill to get over in the three defending region co-champions. The Blue Devils were knocked out in the quarterfinals on the District 10 Class A playoffs and could be a threat to make the playoffs again.
