Fall Fastbreak – George Junior Republic

George Junior Republic Tigers
Coach (season, record)
: Brad Landfair (2nd season, 8-14)
2008-09 overall record: 8-14
2008-09 region record (place): 0-6 (fourth)
Top players lost: Deon Hanton (first-team all-region), Mike Lemon (second-team all-region)
Top returning players: Marquis Lawrence 6-2 sr., Robert Tomoney 6-4, sr.
Top new players: None
Assistant coaches: John Fee, Mike Anderson, Pat Devine
Key games: Jan. 6 at General McLane, Jan. 19 vs. McDowell, Jan. 26 at Cathedral Prep
Outlook: It’s always tough to know how George Junior Republic will be with the roster changing before the season. However, the Tigers under second-year coach Brad Landfair do have Marquis Lawrence and Robert Tomoney returning from last year’s squad. The Tigers gave McDowell a run in the postseason last year, but the Trojans pulled away in the end. George Junior put together a tough schedule with 15 road games, and only six games at home. The toughest stretch will come at the end of 2009 as the Tigers head to State College for a Christmas tournament before starting 2010 at General McLane, Oil City and Ursuline, Ohio. The Tigers have plenty of tough tests in their region and during their non-region schedule, which could help them to better prepare for the brutal District 10 Class AAAA playoffs.
