Youngsville Eagles
Boys
Coach (season, record): Tony Richards (2nd season, 1-21)
2008-09 overall record: 1-21
2008-09 region record (place): 0-16 (ninth)
Top players lost: Luke Reed (5.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg), D.J. Rose (injury)
Top returning players: Dane Freeborough, Taylor Brunecz, Kyle Luther, Nathan Byler, Billy Chuzie
Top new players: Nathan Smith, Tom Chapman
Assistant coaches: Ray Neidrick, Andy Brunecz
Key games: Dec. 11-12 Warren County tournament, Dec. 18 at Eisenhower, Jan. 26 vs. Eisenhower
Outlook: After enduring a tough first season, coach Tony Richards wants to take the Youngsville program to new heights. The Eagles lost a few solid players, including D.J. Rose to a season-ending injury, but have plenty coming back. Dane Freeborough, Taylor Brunecz, Kyle Luther, Nathan Byler and Billy Chuzie all provide solid leadership and experience for the Eagles. Youngsville will have to get used to the road quickly as the Eagles will not play a home game the rest of 2009. Youngsville opens its home schedule against defending D-10 champion Fairview on Jan. 5 before taking on a talented Saegertown team the night after. The Eagles can continue to build their program this year with hard work and improving on one win.
Girls
Coach (season, record): Allison Renwick (1st season)
2008-09 overall record: 1-21
2008-09 region record (place): 0-16 (ninth)
Top players lost: Geneva Kelsey, Colleen Rex, Morgan Eastman
Top returning players: Stephanie Owens, Kristy Reilly, Taylor Rulander, Jordan McCanna
Top new players: Breaunna Baker, Rickel Darling, Amber Fox, Lindsey Lyon, Cierra Ohl
Key games: Dec. 11-12 Warren County tournament, Dec. 19 at Eisenhower, Jan. 25 vs. Eisenhower
Outlook: Youngsville will look for a fresh start under new head coach Allison Renwick. The Eagles endured a tough one-win season last year and will try to get their first region win in two years. Stephanie Owens, Kristy Reilly, Taylor Rulander and Jordan McCanna all provide solid senior leadership this season and will have to teach the younger players. Youngsville only has one home game the rest of 2009, a Dec. 16 date against Cambridge Springs, while playing on the road for six games. If the Eagles can develop some depth and come together as a team quickly, they will improve on their one-win season.
