Less than 30 minutes after winning her second career gold medal, Mercyhurst Prep sophomore Marie Georger claimed the silver medal in Friday night’s 200-yard individual medley final. Georger completed the event’s four disciplines in 2 minutes, 1.64 seconds.
Hershey freshman Rachel Zilinskas recovered from a slow heat to win the title. Zilinskas, the 200 IM top seed, edged Georger for the title at 2:01.38.
Also placing second in an individual event was Klomp. The freshman’s bid for the 50 free crown was dashed by Wyomissing top seed Mary Moser, who’s winning time of 23.18 was .01 off the state record.
Klomp completed the sprint in 23.76.

The Fairview boys’ 200-yard medley relay team will start a significant second to Hershey in Friday night’s championship race, but still have the chance to win what’s believed to be the first PIAA swimming or diving championship of any kind in school history.
The Tigers’ Wade Christensen, Joe Nowak, Ryan Taylor and anchor Richard Petrella were timed at 1 minute, 28.60 seconds for their heat, which was .66 faster than their District 10 qualifying time. Fairview will be next to heat leader Hershey (1:26.80) when the buzzer sounds for the final.
Petrella also qualified sixth for Friday night’s title race in the 200-yard individual medley. The sophomore matched his seed for that event, even though his heat time of 1 minute, 56.84 seconds was more than a half-second slower than his victorious time from the District 10 meet.

Marie Georger could have two more PIAA titles on her Mercyhurst Prep resume before she even begins state defense in the 100-yard backstroke.
Georger posted the low time in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 2.49 seconds) during Thursday morning’s heats. Her effort was more than three seconds faster than her District 10-qualifying time (2:05.56.)
Before that, Georger also has a chance at a team gold medal. She joined Vanessa Bering, Maria Tarbell and anchor Rylee Klomp for a 1:50.08 effort in the 200 medley relay.
Klomp is second going into the 50 free. The freshman sprinter was clocked at 23.86, with Wyomissing top seed Mary Moser first at 23.43.
