Corry Beavers
Coach: Homer DeLattre
2009 overall record: 7-4
2009 region record (place): 3-1 (second)
Playoff results: Lost to Cathedral Prep 56-7 in the District 10 Class AAA semifinals.
Top players lost: Scottie Frisina, Craig Marti, Braidy Westfall, Brandon Miller, Mitchell Anderson
Top returning players: Cory Owens, Alec Gluvna, Adam Zimmerman, Justin Miller, Dustin Taubert, Dalton Swanson, John Cragg, Matt Cragg
Outlook: Corry has done things the same way the last few years on offense. And why not? Scottie Frisina is the all-time leading passing in District 10 history. However, Frisina has moved on to college and the Beavers will have to adapt. Matt Cragg will likely take over as the new quarterback in a revamped Corry offense. The Beavers will likely use a tight end (Justin Miller) this season and rely more on leader Adam Zimmerman to run the ball. Corry will stick with the no-huddle offense but it may take a few weeks for Cragg to get acclimated.
Alec Gluvna, Dustin Taubert and Dalton Swanson will anchor the offensive and defensive lines, while Cory Owens and John Cragg are top receivers coming back. The Beavers will need plenty of leadership in September as Corry will go through a tough stretch. After starting the season at Girard, an emotional game honoring the late Mina George, the Beavers will take on Region 5 contenders Grove City, Meadville and Oil City.
