Corner Kick: East

East Warriors
Boys
Coach (season): Bob Edwards (5th season)
2010 overall record: 5-8-2
2010 region record (place): 3-4-1 (third)
2010 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Willy Bizokunda, Ousmane Konneh, Jumapili Nshimirimana
Top returning players: Amany Bigilimana, Mohamed Hassan, Kimwanga Elongo, Olivier Okenke
Assistant coach: Mark Cologna
Outlook: East didn’t lose many players to graduation and will be young once again this fall. The Warriors lost Willy Bizokunda, Ousmane Konneh and Jumapili Nshimirimana to graduation but they have plenty of players back. Amany Bigilimana and Mohamed Hassan were voted to the all-region team last year and could be impact players as seniors. Also back are Kimwanga Elongo, a junior, and Olivier Okenke, a sophomore. East has a set team from last year but will try to develop some of the younger players to fill in some holes and create depth. The Warriors’ first priority this season is to improve on five wins from last year but the ultimate goal is to compete in every match and get above .500 at the end of the year.

2010 overall record: 2-11-0
2010 region record (place): 0-8-0 (fifth)
2010 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Karyn Adams, Tessa Michalski
Top returning players: Cara Cohick, Alisyn Cohick, Kadijah Overton, Sierra Balsiger, Taylor Balsiger
Assistant coach: Scott Cohick
Outlook: East will look to rebuild the program this season after losing several experienced players to graduation, including goalkeeper Karyn Adams and defender Tessa Michalski. The Warriors are young and only have five players back this fall. Cara Cohick, who scored five goals and had two assists last year, is back along with Alisyn Cohick (5 goals, 1 assist), Kadijah Overton (2 goals, 2 assists), Sierra Balsiger and Taylor Balsiger. The rest of the starting lineup and bench will be determined in camp. Coach Gillian Williams, who is in her sixth season, said the offseason went well and the key will be the new players becoming cohesive with the returning players on and off the field.
