Fall Fastbreak – Harbor Creek

Harbor Creek Huskies
Boys
Coach (season, record): Jason Dolak (3rd season, 22-22)
2010-11 overall record: 8-14
2010-11 region record (place): 3-11 (seventh)
2010-11 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AAA playoffs.
Top players lost: Brandon King, Adam Sestak, Adam Weismiller
Top returning players: Drew Barko, Austin Griffith, Joe McBride, Bremont Robison, Lucas Mattson
Assistant coaches: Jeff Dolak, Ryan Munson
Outlook: Harbor Creek will look to the lower levels this winter to fill in some gaps and possibly contribute daily to help the seniors. The Huskies don’t have a lot of experience back but five strong seniors in Drew Barko, Austin Griffith, Joe McBride, Bremont Robison and Lucas Mattson. Barko started nine games last year before suffering a season-ending injury. Griffith and McBride are returning starters, while Robison and Mattson were solid backups. Harbor Creek has some holes to fill with the graduation of Brandon King, Adam Sestak and Adam Weismiller. King might be the biggest loss in production at 14.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Joe Zoltowski could see more minutes on the varsity level along with Isaac Mattson, Jacob Stanopiewicz and Adam Renshaw. The Huskies have to deal with a tough region schedule along with an ambitious non-region schedule that features Strong Vincent, North East and Cathedral Prep. Harbor Creek has the talent to stick with most of their Region 7 opponents and if the Huskies can develop some chemistry and some of the younger players, they could be a dangerous team in the second half of the season.

Girls
Coach (season): Mark Corey (1st season)
2010-11 overall record: 7-15
2010-11 region record (place): 4-10 (sixth)
2010-11 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AAA playoffs.
Top players lost: Paige Renshaw, Valerie Langer
Top returning players: Casey Carnell, Steph Corey, Karmella Kienholz, Kellie Nowakowski, Crystal Taccone, Sadie Zielinski
Assistant coaches: Bob Rzodkiewicz, Scott Hinman
Outlook: Harbor Creek went through some changes in the offseason with Mark Corey taking over the program. Corey will have plenty of experienced players to work with as the Huskies only lost Paige Renshaw and Valerie Langer to graduation. Seniors Casey Carnell, Steph Corey, Karmella Kienholz, Kellie Nowakowski and Crystal Taccone provide leadership, while Sadie Zielinski is an up-and-coming junior. The Huskies might also receive big contributions from Tash Brigham, Camille Sicker, Maggie Lawrence, Maddie Carnell, Theresa Fachetti and Alaina Kruszewski. Harbor Creek is looking to be competitive in a region that it is transition and grab one of the four playoff spots available. The Huskies have the experience and talent to make a run, but the key this season will be developing under a new system and getting some help from the lower levels to add to their depth.
