New PIAA basketball state rankings released

Not much changed in the boys rankings with General McLane holding steady at No. 9 in Class AAA, while West Middlesex is still No. 6 in A. Surprisingly, Mercyhurst Prep continues to drop despite stringing together wins. The Lakers are now No. 6 in AA with Vaux jumping into the fifth spot.

On the girls’ side, Villa Maria retained its spot in Class AA as the No. 1 team in the state. The Victors have been in the top spot since winning a PIAA Class AA title in 2009. Girard moved up to No. 8 despite a loss to state-ranked Kennedy Catholic, who is the No. 3 team in Class A.

In Class AAA, Franklin is No. 2 behind District 12 power Prep Charter. Mercyhurst Prep is holding steady at No. 5 with a huge game against Villa Maria looming on Saturday.
