Tom…I can’t disagree with your AAA boys/girls rankings because I haven’t seen all the teams play. No doubt about No.1 in boys and Top 2 in girls. But I would like to know how you determined who is ranked below them and why others didn’t make it.
Which teams are you interested in?
Thanks,
Tom
AAA appears pretty deep with decent teams. Curious how you seperate Hickory, Sharon, Meadville, Central, Warren in boys. Same with GM, NE, SR, GC, HC, Warren in girls. I haven’t seen several of these teams. They appear to be pretty close on paper. Where do those you have ranked get their edge?
Corey,
Honestly, the Class AAA boys is ridiculous. I should almost do a top 10 because there are so many deserving teams. From talking to media and coaches in the north and south, it appears the south is much stronger this year than the north and has four of the five teams. If Central had continued to win instead of being knocked off by Girard, they might have climbed back into the top 5.
As far as the southern rankings, Franklin has been a dominant team and I believe both of their losses have come without 6-8 Noah Jones. Keeping that in mind and assuming Franklin will be healthy soon, I kept the Knights at 2. The next two spots are Grove City and Hickory. The two teams are about even but GC beat Hickory earlier this year putting the Eagles into the third slot and Hornets at four.
The fifth spot could be a number of teams but Sharon deserves to be in there. I honestly think Sharon is the most talented team in AAA but discipline has been an issue. They seem to be putting it together finally and have knocked off some impressive teams lately. The region is crazy enough that Sharon could still grab a share of the region title if the Tigers win out and will be a brutal first round matchup for any Region 7 team.
As far as the girls go, like you said the top two are obvious. I think Hickory in the third slot is pretty obvious too as they have been playing well this year and only lost to Franklin by 10 points. After the top 3, there is a lot of tough decisions. North East, General McLane, Warren and Slippery Rock have looked great at times and have been knocked off in other games. Any of those four could be in the fourth and fifth spots but I think right now McLane is the fourth best team and North East is fifth.
Thanks,
Tom
Thanks for the insight. Almost impossible to seperate some of these teams at this point. We could have some very tight playoff games in both boys and girls. One thing for sure, my hometown Beavers are having a tough year and will be watching just like me.
