District 10 swimming psych sheets released

The pysch sheets for the District 10 swimming championships are available for the Class AAA and Class AA meets, which take place Friday and Saturday at Penn State Behrend’s Junker Center.

Among the Class AAA boys, nine-time defending champion Cathedral Prep has six top seeds and McDowell has five, including all three relays. Among Class AAA girls, 16-time defending champ McDowell is seeded first in nine events and Meadville is No. 1 in two events.

The Fairview boys, winners of the past three Class AA team titles, are seeded first in six events. Corry has two top seeds, while Franklin, Mercyhurst Prep and Slippery Rock have one apiece.

The Mercyhurst Prep girls, meanwhile, lead the Class AA girls with eight top seeds. Villa Maria has one top seed, while four-time defending team champion Fairview does not have a No. 1 seed. (Fairview’s Carolyn Eckendorf did win the diving title Saturday.)

The qualifier who has caught the most attention on the psych sheets is Wilmington freshman Lauren Barber, who swims as an independent. Barber is top-seeded in the 200 freestyle with a sensational time of 1 minute, 53.94 seconds. That time is almost 3 seconds faster than the Class AA record and is less than a second off the Behrend pool record. Barber is also top-seeded in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.24).
