Winter Warm-up – Lakeview

Lakeview Sailors
Coach (season, record): Bill Beith (14th season, 123-105)
2011 overall record: 8-8
2011 region record (place): 4-4 (tied for second)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Jake Novak, Mike Brown
Top returning players: Derek Giovengo, Shane Whitehouse, Austin Slater, Jake Heim
Assistant coaches: Troy Snyder, Derrek Somner
Outlook: Lakeview will need lots of help from underclassmen this season. The Sailors lost all of its power in the lineup and almost all of its pitching to graduation. Among the seniors that left were standouts Jake Novak and Mike Brown. Lakeview returns Derek Giovengo, Shane Whitehouse, Austin Slater and Jake Heim, while Logan Snyder, Zack Bigley and Patrick Nero could make an impact on the varsity level this spring. Giovengo is the only experience back on the mound and could be important to the Sailors’ lineup that will likely have to manufacture runs this season.
