Winter Warm-up – Meadville

Meadville Bulldogs
Baseball
Coach (season, record): Joe Hruska (7th season, 62-51)
2011 overall record: 4-10
2011 region record (place): 3-6 (tied for fourth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Keane Bontrager, Nick Latta
Top returning players: Corey Lynn, Terence Goodrum, Ted Williams, Colton McCurdy, Matt Thompson, Alex Glatch
Assistant coach: J.J. Potts
Outlook: Meadville has a strong group back this season and is looking to improve on its four-win season. The Bulldogs lost Keane Bontrager and Nick Latta to graduation, but Corey Lynn, Terence Goodrum, Ted Williams, Colton McCurdy, Matt Thompson and Alex Glatch are back. Lynn, West Virginia Wesleyan recruit, should be back by mid to late April from injury. Lynn has plenty of power, while Terence Goodrum, Ted Williams, Colton McCurdy, Matt Thompson and Alex Glatch are big-time contributors as well. The Bulldogs could also receive quality playing time from Jaylin Custard and Harry Boyer. Meadville has a strong defense this season and will need several players to step up to compete in a tough Class AAA region.

Softball
Coach (season): Addie Lipps (1st season)
2011 overall record: 6-9
2011 region record (place): 4-6 (tied for fourth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top player lost: Katie Evanovich
Top returning players: Destinee Seahers, Lauren Aucker, Courtney Woods
Assistant coaches: Kristy Porter, Brian Nottingham, Brian Lipps
Outlook: Meadville will be under new direction this season as Addie Lipps takes over as head coach. The Bulldogs lost Katie Evanovich to graduation but they return Destinee Seahers, Lauren Aucker and Courtney Woods. Seahers is a standout outfielder, while Aucker is a third baseman and Woods is a catcher. Freshman Katie Newman, a pitcher and a catcher, could be a big-time contributor this season. Meadville is in a tough region with several perennial powerhouses and rebuilding won’t be easy. The Bulldogs’ success will depend on how quickly the underclassmen come together and develop into varsity players.
