Mackenzie Hewett almost forced her coach to put her on the mound last season with terrific pitching when McDowell needed it most.
The junior has developed into a dual threat from the plate. Hewett started off the season with 11 strikeouts in a 12-0 win over Central Tech while offensively she contributed two hits and three RBIs.
The all-state honorable-mention selection had a 0.24 ERA with 91 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings as a sophomore and is primed for another solid year for the Trojans.
