Amber Bacon didn’t have to go far to see what the state-level competition would be. The Union City senior had to deal with several all-stars from Hickory at the District 10 Class AA meet and still managed to take fifth in the discus with a throw of 114 feet, 9 inches. In the process, she qualified for the PIAA championships by topping the state qualifying standard.
She followed that up with a solid throw of 118-5 the state meet in Shippensburg to earn a spot on the medal stand in eighth place.
Bacon’s medal completed a dominant performance by District 10 performers in the Class AA discus. She was one of six discus throwers from the district to earn a medal. Hickory swept the top three positions in the event.
