The Erie Saints 17U team came back from the presitigous Bluechip Basketball USA Invitational with an impressive 4-2 showing over the weekend. The Saints finished in 13th place in a bracket of 64 teams during the tournament in York. The tournament, which is one of the top AAU events in the country, had more than 300 teams playing and around 500 college coaches in attendance.
The Saints defeated the Central Jersey Hawks 50-20, the Connecticut Mavericks 48-41 and the Hudson Valley Elite 52-46. The Saints’ losses came to the Maryland Lady Terps (52-46) and the Delaware Lady Sharks (32-26). Erie’s biggest win came against the Franklin Hoopstars 50-28. It wasn’t the biggest margin of victory but most of the Saints could battle Franklin during the high school basketball season this winter. Ironically, the Saints have Angelina Starr on their roster, a rising star for Franklin.
The Erie Saints’ 17U roster consists of Brenna Robbins (Mercyhurst Prep), Leah Bennett (Villa Maria), Alex Artise (North East), Lindsey Mifsud (Villa Maria), Nikki Arbanas (Hickory), Amesha Harden-Pullium (Villa Maria), Angelina Starr (Franklin), Shanice Morris (Villa Maria) and Katlyn Unger (Villa Maria).
Coaches are encouraged to submit AAU results throughout the summer to tom.reisenweber@timesnews.com.
