Outlook: East put together one of its best seasons in recent history last fall and just missed to the District 10 Class AAA playoffs. The Warriors dropped down to Class AA this season and could make a serious run not only at the playoffs, but at the region and district titles. East returns most of its starting lineup but coach Bob Edwards will have to replace two big-time players. Mohamed Hassan was named to the all-district team on offense, as well as being voted to the all-region first team and the Region 6 Player of the Year. Hassan needs to be replaced along with second-team offensive player Krishna Rai. Although Hassan and Rai are big losses, East has basically everyone else back. Tomas Reyes (offense) and Olivier Okende (defense) were first-team picks, while Abbas Al-Musawi was voted to the second team at goalkeeper. Also back are starters Elongo Kimwanga, Abdulahi Mahamud, Kul Gurung, Insan Rai, Som Tamang and Dawa Tamang. The Warriors have an experienced group of returning starters this season and could receive contributions from seniors Human Luai, Jose Urbieta and sophomore Pau Khup. East has a strong keeper back along with solid lines on defense and at midfield. Developing new forwards will be key as both losses to graduation are at that position. The Warriors made big strides last season and can be a top Class AA team this fall.
