Corner Kick – Maplewood

Maplewood Tigers
Girls
Coach (season): Ted Eriksen (11th season)
2011 overall record: 4-11-1
2011 region record (place): 1-2-1 (second)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class A playoffs.
Top players lost: Emma Lake, Devon Lynn, Cerianne Rea, Kristina Lippert, Emily Leech
Top returning players: Treelyn Kunz, Mariah Groger, Breanna Proudfoot
Assistant coach: Cheryl Andrae
Outlook: Maplewood had some struggles in 2011 and will need to rebuild this season after being hit hard by graduation. Emma Lake, Devon Lynn, Cerianne Rea, Kristina Lippert and Emily Leech graduated in the spring, leaving the Tigers with some holes to fill. Rea was an all-region gooalkeeper, while Lake was voted to the all-region team on defense. Lynn, Lippert and Leech leaving puts a big hole at midfield. Maplewood has some experience back this season. Breanna Proudfoot is back after being voted all-region on offense as a freshman, while junior defender Mariah Groger also made the all-region team. Treelyn Kunz is back to anchor the midfield and new player Savannah Phillips could be an impact player right away. The Tigers lost six starters to graduation and will be comprised of mostly freshmen and sophomores this season. Winning matches won’t be nearly as important as building the program and gaining experience for the years to come.
