McDowell’s Conner commits to Pitt

McDowell standout James Conner has locked up his collegiate future by verbally committing to Pitt. Conner, a 6-foot 3-inch, 230-pound running back/defensive end, set a school record in 2011 with 12 sacks. He finished with 46 tackles and one pass deflection as a junior while rushing for 267 yards and three touchdowns on 41 carries. Conner also caught four passes for 75 yards and one touchdown.

Conner also had standing offers from Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Toledo and Youngstown State. He becomes the fifth District 10 player to commit to a major-college football program. Damion Terry (Cathedral Prep) committed to Michigan State, while Hickory’s DeShawn Coleman is headed to West Virgina and General McLane’s Quinn Thompson will attend Connecticut. Meadville senior Artrel Foster recently committed to Temple and Prep senior Delton Williams is still entertaining offers but recent reports have him down to Nebraska and Michigan State.
