Corner Kick – Oil City

Oil City Oilers
Boys
Coach (season): Larry Euchler (7th season)
2011 overall record: 0-18-0
2011 region record (place): 0-10-0 (sixth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Eric Hoover, Jesse Ragon, Devin Stevenson, Grey Slye
Top returning players: Jarred Ruth, Jon Verhoff, Latrobe Barnitz, Dan Fink, Sam Wilson
Assistant coach: Jon Reinsel
Outlook: Oil City is looking to start building its program this fall. The Oilers have struggled over the past few years and is looking to get over the hump of winning a match. Oil City graduated Eric Hoover, Jesse Ragon, Devin Stevenson and Grey Slye, leaving some holes in the starting lineup. The Oilers will look to returning players Jarred Ruth, Jon Verhoff, Latrobe Barnitz, Dan Fink and Sam Wilson for leadership this season. Oil City also has a few freshmen that could play right away, including midfielder Nick Varsek. Oil City is in a tough region with Bradford and Warren and now Saegertown. The Oilers have some winnable matches in the non-region portion of their schedule and winning that first match could do wonders for their confidence.

2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: None
Top returning players: Olivia Chapman, Zanya Frost, Savannah King
Assistant coach: Ron Snyder
Outlook: Much like the boys’ program, the Oil City girls are looking for confidence more than anything. The Oilers have won one match in the past two years and are looking to start building a team together. Oil City didn’t lose anyone to graduation and has an all-region second-team defender back this fall in Savannah King. Also back are Olivia Chapman and Zanya Frost to lead a young Oil City team. The Oilers have experience and the will to build chemistry but breaking through with a few wins will be key this season. Oil City has a few matches early on that they can win and start building some steam heading into the region schedule. Winning matches is always important but coming together as a team will be paramount for the Oilers.
