Corner Kick – Seneca

Seneca Bobcats
Boys
Coach (season, record): Donald Pearce (3rd season, 7-28-1)
2011 overall record: 0-18-0
2011 region record (place): 0-8-0 (fifth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class A playoffs.
Top players lost: None
Top returning players: Entire starting lineup
Assistant coaches: None
Outlook: Seneca will have one of the most experienced teams in District 10 this season with no seniors on last year’s squad. Among the returning players is all-region second-team defender Kyle Strickenberger. Seneca coach Donald Pearce is expecting about 26 to 28 players this fall, creating competition for playing time in camp. Seneca was young last season but the growing pains it went through in a winless season could pay off this fall. The Bobcats have a tough schedule but a few winnable matches along the way. Seneca hopes to use its experience to win some matches this season but gaining confidence and playing together might be the most important things throughout the fall.

2011 region record (place): 2-9-1 (fifth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Taylor Perkins, Ellie Johnson
Top returning players: Kym Braine, Kelsey Drumm, Meghan McChesney, Lindsey Jarema, Megan Pound, Carrie Wieczorek, Amanda Sonney, Megan Fish, Jeanette Koeth
Assistant coach: Brad Galloway
Outlook: Seneca has made strides the past two seasons under coach Ashleigh Sontheimer. The Bobcats will look to take the next step and get over .500 this season. Seneca graduated Taylor Perkins and Ellie Johnson but everyone else is back. Kym Braine returns in goal behind defenders Kelsey Drumm, Meghan McChesney, Lindsey Jarema and Megan Pound. Carrie Wieczorek is back to anchor the midfield, while Amanda Sonney, Megan Fish and Jeanette Koeth are solid scorers at the forward position. Fisher led Seneca with seven goals in 2011 and had three assists. Sonney finished with five goals for the Bobcats. Seneca has experience and could contend in Class A. The Bobcats will need to win some early matches to build momentum heading into region play.
