Fans can vote for the Breakout Team of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Friday at 4:59 p.m. with the winner being featured Sunday in the Erie Times-News. Teams who have won the award this season are no longer eligible. Fans are encouraged to nominate teams by 5 p.m. each Tuesday.
West Middlesex cross country – Earned a sweep in the Hermitage Invitational by winning the boys and girls races.
Cathedral Prep cross country – Placed three runners in the top 20 to pick up the McDowell Invitational boys team championship.
Villa Maria cross country – Had two runners in the top 10, including champion Bernadette Prichard as the Victors won the McDowell Invitational girls team championship.
Harbor Creek girls soccer – Harbor Creek didn’t allow a goal in two matches as the Huskies captured the Harbor Creek tournament championship.
Fort LeBoeuf volleyball – The Bison rolled through pool play and knocked off rival General McLane in the championship to win their own invitational.
North East volleyball – Picked up an impressive tournament championship at the Cambridge Springs tournament. North East beat powerhouses Saegertown in the championship.
Slippery Rock volleyball – Made its way through a tough field and beat several talented teams to win its own invitational.
Mercyhurst Prep tennis – The Lakers are off to an impressive start, including a 4-1 win over McDowell.
Harbor Creek boys soccer – The Huskies posted two impressive wins, including a 1-0 shutout of Fairview to win the Harbor Creek tournament.
General McLane boys soccer – The Lancers picked up an important region match by holding off East 2-1 on Friday.
Conneaut football – The Eagles picked up their first win in program history by defeating Girard 36-16.
Farrell football – The Steelers held on in overtime to beat rival Sharon 21-14.
Wilmington football – The Greyhounds were tested in a big way but used a late touchdown to beat Class A power West Middlesex 13-10.
Hickory football – The Hornets knocked off state-ranked Strong Vincent 44-22.
Central Tech football – The Falcons picked up an impressive 36-13 win over Mercyhurst Prep.
