Rinker two shots back after Day 1

Slippery Rock standout golfer Brett Rinker shot a 73 today at the PIAA Class AAA golf championships at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort and Conference Center in York. Rinker is tied for fifth place and is behind Chris Cerminaro (Scranton Prep), Marc Oliveri (Conestoga Valley) and Jalen Griffin (Wissahickon) who all shot a 71.

District 10 didn’t fare as well in Class AA boys. North East’s Brian Ropiecki is tied with Cambridge Springs’ Trevor Rodgers for 30th after rounds of 86. Teven Vargo (Harbor Creek) is in 34th place after shooting an 89.

D-10 didn’t have a Class AAA girls representative but Hickory’s Rosy Hearns is in the hunt for the PIAA Class AA championship. She had a round of 81 to tie for third place after the first day. She is behind Villa Maria’s Cara Basso (78). No, not the local Villa Maria but the Villa on the eastern part of the state.

The local Villa Maria has Annie Ciacchini in a ninth-place tie with North East’s Megan Moylan. Both shot an 85 in the first round.

Each golfer will shoot another round of 18 on Tuesday.
