Thursday’s playoff soccer and volleyball updates

Check back throughout the evening for updates from the District 10 soccer and volleyball playoffs. There are eight soccer matches to go along with four volleyball matches.

Update 28
Mercer defeats North East 4-3 in a shootout. Mercer will take on Mercyhurst Prep for the D-10 title.

Update 27
General McLane beats Warren 3-2. Fort LeBoeuf beats Slippery Rock 25-11, 25-20, 25-22. Meadville defeats Conneaut 25-20, 25-15, 25-21.

Update 26
Mercyhurst wins with 7 seconds left! Mercyhurst wins 1-0!

Update 25
Mercyhurst Prep girls hold off Hickory 2-1.

Update 24
Ooooovertime! Mercyhurst and Fairview still scoreless. GM leads Warren 3-2. Mercer and NE tied 2-2. LeBoeuf wins the second set 25-20. Meadville wins the second set 25-17.

Update 23
Kick save and a beaut for Pertz. Still scoreless between Mercyhurst and Fairview with 5 minutes left.

Update 22
Taylor Smallshaw and Olivia Augustyniak score to make it 2-1 Mercyhurst over Hickory with 25 minutes left. Fort LeBoeuf wins the first set 25-11 against Slippery Rock. Meadville wins first set 25-20 against Conneaut.

Update 21
General McLane leads Warren 2-1 with 23 minutes left. North East up 2-1 with 18 minutes left.

28 minutes left and Fairview and MP are still scoreless. Both teams are taking turns controlling the action. Hickory leads 1-0 early in the second half. Mercyhurst has had several chances but haven’t broken through.

Update 19
General McLane and Warren tied 1-1 with 11 minutes left in the first half. Mercyhurst Prep and Fairview are scoreless at the half. North East leads Mercer 2-1 at the half. Hickory still leads 1-0 with six minutes left in the first half.

Nine minutes in, the Hickory girls lead Mercyhurst Prep 1-0. North East leads Mercer 2-1 midway through the first.

Update 17
Chase Hoffman ties it up for Mercer at 1-1. Mercyhurst Prep and Fairview scoreless through 10 minutes. Ian Pertz has made several big saves for Mercyhurst.

Update 16
Sharpsville defeats Cochranton 25-18, 25-14, 25-23 in Class A girls volleyball. North East takes a 1-0 lead eight minutes in against Mercer in Class A boys soccer. Maplewood sweeps Saegertown 25-19, 25-23, 25-14.

Fairview girls win 4-1 and Villa wins 9-2.

Harbor Creek beats Saegertown 3-0. Mercer beats Iroquois 1-0 in Class A girls. Sharpsville wins the second second 25-14 over Cochranton. Maplewood wins the second set 25-23. Sharpsville and Maplewood up 2-0 in both Class A semifinals.

Elle Bennett scores to give Fairview a 3-1 lead with 12 minutes left.

Sharpsville beats Cochranton 25-18 in the first set of a D-10 Class A volleyball quarterfinal. Maplewood defeats Saegertown 25-19 in the first set of the other quarterfinal.

Mercer takes a 1-0 lead on Iroquois with 19 minutes left.

Mercer and Iroquois girls still scoreless midway through the second half.

Nick Hesch scores for the Huskies. 3-0 HC with 29:32 left. Villa leads 6-1 early in the second half.

Harbor Creek still leads Saegertown 2-0 with 30 minutes left.

Phil Hesch with a huge shot with 11 seconds left in the first half. Harbor Creek leads Saegertown 2-0 at the half. Fairview leads 2-1 at the half and Villa Maria leads 5-1 at halftime.

Update 6
Villa Maria leads Slippery Rock 3-1 with nine minutes left in the first half. Could we see Villa-MP one more time this year? Jessica Mihalic has both goals for Fairview as the Tigers lead Wilmington 2-0.

Update 5
Fairview takes a 2-0 lead with 18 minutes left in the first half. D-10 might have a new Class A girls champion if Wilmington can’t come back.

Update 4
Midway through the first half and Harbor Creek leads Saegertown 1-0. Mercer and Iroquois girls are scoreless through 20 minutes.

Update 3
The Fairview girls score two minutes in to take a 1-0 lead on Wilmington.

Update 2
Eric Campbell fires a shot from about 15 yards and Harbor Creek leads Saegertown 1-0 with 34 minutes left in the first half.

Update 1
I just spoke with Gus Picardo. Both McDowell soccer teams will head to DuBois High School Saturday for PIAA subregionals. The girls will play State College at 2 p.m. followed by the boys taking on DuBois at 4 p.m.

Also, an interesting note on Saegertown. Today is their first playoff appearance in program history.

    MP parent, you folks have a talented group of young ladies as well. My daughter is the senior stopper on the Hickory team and will miss her teammates. I wish you well in future playoff games Prep ladies. Get another state title girls!!

    I would just like to add a comment about the NE girls soccer team. They were in the same boat as the Fairview boys soccer team. Their AD and coach called the D10 committee and were denied a spot in the playoffs!

    Tell me that isn’t something to talk about! Unbelievable! All I can say is WOW D10 WTG! I guess what’s good for one isn’t always good for the other, unless your Fairview!
