Fans can vote for the Breakout Team of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Friday at 4:59 p.m. with the winner being featured Sunday in the Erie Times-News. Teams who have won the award this season are no longer eligible. Fans are encouraged to nominate teams by 5 p.m. each Tuesday.
Villa Maria bowling – The Victors completed a perfect first half to the season with a 21-point win over East. Villa is 5-0 in the Metro League with five matches left.
General McLane wrestling – Beat McDowell 34-23 to not only take control of Region 4 but pick up the program’s 500th win. The Lancers are 3-0 this season.
North East wrestling – The Grapepickers are a perfect 3-0 this season and a strong contender in Region 3.
Sharon wrestling – The Tigers are off to a terrific start at 3-0 in duals.
Mercer wrestling – The Mustangs are 2-0 and near the top of the Region 1 standings early in the season.
Grove City swimming – The Eagles have the only undefeated boys and girls swimming teams in Region 1. Grove City is off to a fast start and is a contender in both regions.
Fairview swimming – The Tigers have two undefeated swim teams in boys and girls. Both are heavy favorites in Region 2.
Mercyhurst Prep swimming – The Lakers haven’t run into the powerhouses yet but both the boys and girls are undefeated in Region 3 and are having big seasons.
Cathedral Prep swimming – The Ramblers picked up a thrilling 93-90 win over rival McDowell to remain a perfect 2-0 this year.
Lakeview boys basketball – It will take a big effort to slow the Sailors down this year. Lakeview moved to 6-0 last week and look like a contender in Region 2 and D-10 Class AA.
Warren boys basketball - The Dragons picked up a signature win by defeating upstart McDowell 77-75. Matt Sandberg connected on a deep 3-pointer as time ran out to secure Warren’s first win over McDowell in seven years.
Seneca boys basketball – The Bobcats started region play off on the right foot with an impressive 42-37 upset of defending D-10 Class AA runner-up North East.
General McLane girls basketball – The Lancers improved to 5-0 with a solid region win over Girard. McLane was down two of its top six players against the YellowJackets.
North East girls basketball – The Grapepickers are 5-0 this year and look like a big-time contender in Region 4 and D-10 Class AA.
Warren girls basketball – The Dragons improved to 5-0 last week and are on a roll since the season began.
Hickory girls basketball - The Hornets haven’t lost any of their five games this year and look like a threat to Franklin in Region 5.
Franklin girls basketball – The Knights are a perfect 4-0 this season and haven’t slowed down since winning D-10 last year.
