Erie Times-News Breakout Athlete of the Week nominees

Fans can vote for the Breakout Athlete of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. with the winners being featured in the Erie Times-News. Fans are encouraged to nominate athletes by 5 p.m. each Saturday by sending an e-mail to sports@timesnews.com. Athletes who have won this season are no longer eligible.

Boys basketball
Alex Boylan, Jamestown – Scored 21 points to lead the Muskies to their first win of the season with a 46-41 win over Commodore Perry.
Matthew Dogan, West Middlesex – Had 30 points in an 89-40 win over Reynolds. He also scored 24 points in a 97-55 win over Wilmington.
Dalton Boggs, Lakeview - Finished with 18 points in a 61-30 win over Sharpsville.
Jamel Brown, Farrell – Scored 20 points in a 61-55 win against Oil City.
Ron Pearson, George Junior – Had all 19 of his points in the fourth quarter to lead the Eagles to an 81-80 win over Sharon.
Donte Hollingsworth, Meadville – Scored 24 points in a 79-57 win over Grove City.
Darrell Stovall, Sharon – Finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds in a 60-46 win over Farrell.
Matt Votino, Hickory – Scored 22 points in an 81-58 win over George Junior.
Tyler Luchey, Sharpsville – Connected on a 6-footer with two seconds left to give the Blue Devils a 51-49 win over Greenville. He finished with 13 points.
Demetrius McClennan, VisionQuest – Scored 25 points in a 69-34 win over Rocky Grove.
Adam Kirwin, Rocky Grove – Finished with 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in a 69-17 win over Tidioute Charter.
Devon Geib, Oil City – Scored 19 points to lead the Oilers to a 62-52 win over Meadville.
Garrett Frable, Reynolds – Had 25 points in a 59-56 win over Union City.
Alex Hoban, Union City - Scored 24 points on eight 3-pointers in a 59-56 loss to Reynolds.
Matt Sandberg, Warren – Finished with 15 points in a crucial 49-47 win over East.
Blake Bentley, North East – Scored 25 points in a 54-51 win over Northwestern.
Alex Borges, Mercyhurst Prep – Put together a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks in a 55-31 win over Seneca.
Andy Niland, Fairview – Had three 3-pointers on his way to 20 points in a 54-36 win over Titusville.
Jaymon Mason, General McLane – Scored 24 points in a 79-36 win over Corry.
Deishaaron Gilmore, Central Tech – Put together a triple-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks in an 83-75 win over East. He also had 21 points in a 79-70 win over Glenville.
Joe Dunn, Girard – Scored 18 points in a 56-26 win over Fort LeBoeuf.
Luke Carter, Saegertown – Exploded for 35 points in an 82-41 win over Maplewood.
Malquan Pullium, Strong Vincent – Collected 25 points to keep his impressive season going as the Colonels beat Warren 67-55.
Bryce Turner, Seneca – Scored 18 points in a 66-61 win over Northwestern.
Kyree Kirkland, East - Scored 18 points in a 61-36 win over Rhodes.
Matt Hess, Cathedral Prep – had a career-high 18 points and came up big in an 80-75 upset of nationally-ranked Bishop O’Connell.

Girls basketball
McKenzie Popatak, Sharpsville – Had 25 points and 17 rebounds in a 54-37 win over Sharon. She also had 10 points and 17 rebounds in a 65-16 win over Lakeview and 25 points and 12 rebounds in a 51-37 loss to Girard.
Holly Grober, Hickory – Finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and four steals in a 57-16 win over Meadville. She also had 17 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists in a 73-31 win over Oil City.
Alexis Summers, West Middlesex – Scored 18 points in a 41-30 win over Lakeview.
Amber Nerlich, Rocky Grove – Had a career-high 22 points in a 50-36 win over Farrell.
Lexi Dabner, Sharon – Finished with 18 points and six assists in a 70-38 win over Mercer.
Haley Angerett, Slippery Rock – Collected 11 points, five rebounds and two steals in a 32-29 overtime win over Grove City. She scored all four of the Rockets’ points in overtime.
April Bocian, Kennedy Catholic – The freshman had 16 points and 21 rebounds in a 66-35 win over Commodore Perry.
Bria Gambill, Farrell - Scored 15 points in a 41-26 win over Reynolds.
Tessa Sikora, Wilmington – Hit a buzzer-beater to lift the Greyhounds to a 50-48 win over West Middlesex. She finished with 11 points.
Angelina Starr, Franklin – Scored 17 points in an 81-46 win over Grove City. She also scored 24 points in an 86-35 win over Meadville.
Kristen Baker, Conneaut - Had 18 points in a 50-21 win over Maplewood.
Lexie Grinnell, Commodore Perry – Scored the only field goal in overtime as the Panthers upset Rocky Grove 40-38 in overtime.
Harlie Bolt, Girard – Had 10 points and 11 rebounds in a 49-23 win over Fairview. She also had 16 points and eight rebounds in a 51-37 win over Sharpsville.
Alex Artise, North East - Scored 18 points in a 72-25 win over Union City. She also had 22 points in a 60-20 win over Iroquois.
Amanda Sonney, Seneca – Finished with 20 points in a 51-23 win over Northwestern. She also had 21 points in a 50-42 win over Cochranton.
Erika Woll, Mercyhurst Prep – Had 10 points and five assists in a crucial 52-42 win over Warren.
Julia Boyd, Fort LeBoeuf - Scored 15 points on five 3-pointers in a 59-33 win over Corry.
Paige Wolfrom, Cambridge Springs – Had 14 points in a 48-37 win over East.
Ronneshia Beason, East – Finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds in a 48-37 loss to Cambridge Springs.
Leah Bennett, Villa Maria – Had 19 points in a 67-14 win over Harbor Creek.
Lindsey Jahn, General McLane – Finished with 16 points and nine rebounds in a 50-32 win over Seneca.
Theresa Fachetti, Harbor Creek – Scored 22 points in a 50-48 win over Fort LeBoeuf.
Kathryn Sundberg, Fairview – Finished with 19 points, 12 rbeounds, 6 blocks and 5 steals in a 48-34 win over John F. Kennedy.
Bri Krysiak, McDowell – Had 13 points and 11 rebounds in a 56-45 win over Rochester East.

Boys swimming/diving
Shannon Steves, Strong Vincent – Took home four event wins in a win over Central Tech.
Robert Sikatzki, Fairview – Keeps destroying records for the Tigers. He set a pool record at Iroquois in the 500 free with a time of 4:50.56. He also won two more events against Iroquois. Sikatzki then set a Fairview pool record in the 50 free at 21.74 seconds. He also broke the pool and meet record in the 100 back at the Iroquois Invitational with a time of 52.28 seconds. He was named the most valuable swimmer of the meet.
Luke Merski, Cathedral Prep – Won three events against Meadville in a 106-68 win.
Cutter Hall, Harbor Creek – Won the 200 free, 100 free and two relays in a sweep of Corry.
Mike Reed, North East – Had four event wins in a win over Iroquois.
Brent Benedict, Corry – Broke the 10-year pool record and meet record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.73 seconds at the Iroquois Invitational.
Phil Emerson, Franklin – Set the pool and meet record in the 50 free with a time of 21.53 seconds at the Iroquois Invitational.
Truitt Hunter, General McLane – Won the diving championship at the Iroquois Invitational with 394.90 points.

Girls swimming/diving
Alexis Ziegler, Franklin – Won four events in a sweep of Oil City. She won the 500 free, the 200 IM and was in two winning relays.
Mackenzie Danzer, Rocky Grove – Had four event wins in a sweep of Farrell. She won the 100 and 200 free and was in two winning relays.
Sarah Meyer, Strong Vincent – Won four events in a win over Central Tech.
Stephanie Loesch, Fairview – Earned three event wins against Iroquois.
Abby Fessler, Villa Maria - Had three event wins in a win over Meadville.
Ania Gorski, Harbor Creek – Locked up three event wins in a sweep of Corry.
Hannah Feucht, North East – Won four events in a close 88-87 win over Iroquois.
Rachel Labowski, Corry - Had four event wins in a loss to General McLane.

Wrestling
Tyler Emrick, Franklin – Earned a quick pin in 52 seconds at 138 pounds in a 52-22 win over Slippery Rock.
Trevor McCray, Girard – Won the 132-pound championship at the North East Classic with a thrilling 6-5 decision. He also reached 100 wins.
Tim Vargo, Union City – Became a three-time champion at the North East Classic and was voted the most outstanding wrestler by winning the 170-pound bracket.
Ryan Morris, Corry – Won the 195-pound championship at the North East Classic.
Kyle Lukowich, Conneaut - Claimed the 126-pound championship at the North East Classic.
Michael Bonner, Sharon – Won the 138-pound championship at the North East Classic.
Sam Breese, Lakeview – Took home the heavyweight championship of the North East Classic.
Cody Nolan, McDowell - Earned a pin in 36 seconds in the 145-pound class to highlight a 69-0 win over Meadville.
Samson Kafando, Central Tech – Picked up a huge 5-0 win at 195 pounds to help the Falcons knock off Oil City 39-32.
Jordan Bryan, North East – Had stepped as one of the Grapepickers’ top wrestlers this year.
