Erie Times-News Breakout Boys Basketball Player of the Week: Matt Hess, Cathedral Prep

Matt Hess

The Cathedral Prep basketball team needed someone to step up when Delton Williams left the team after Christmas.

Matt Hess has been that player.

Hess, a 6-foot 3-inch junior, is a dual threat who can score from the outside and play underneath the hoop.

He came through with a career-high 18 points to go with five rebounds and four assists in an 80-75 upset of nationally ranked Bishop O’Connell (Va.) in the Burger King Classic.

Hess is fourth on the team with 3.4 rebounds per game and is scoring 5.6 points per game, but both numbers should continue to rise.
