Basketball region champions to be decided

Out of 14 basketball regions, seven have already crowned a champion. The Kennedy Catholic (Region 1), Saegertown (Region 3), Hickory (Region 5) and Cathedral Prep (Region 7) boys have locked up their respective region championships. On the girls’ side, Kennedy Catholic (Region 1), Franklin (Region 5) and McDowell (Region 7) are region champions. Here is a look at the remaining seven regions.

Boys
Region 2 – West Middlesex has already clinched a share of the Region 2 title and it’s just a matter of time before the Big Reds win the region outright. Middlesex will travel to Reynolds Tuesday and host Wilmington Friday. A win in either game would clinch the region title outright.
Region 4 - Mercyhurst Prep (11-1) has a one-game lead on Fairview (10-2) with two games left. The Lakers host Seneca and Union City, while Fairview takes on Titusville and North East.
Region 6 – General McLane (11-1) is only one game ahead of Girard (10-2) and both have two huge region games left. The Lancers play Strong Vincent Tuesday and Girard plays East. McLane and Girard then battle for the second time Friday. The Lancers lost to the YellowJackets the first time around and a second win would likely clinch a share of the region title between the two rivals.
Girls
Region 2 – Sharpsville, despite an upset from Sharon, is on top of the region standings by one game over the Tigers and Mercer. Sharpsville travels to Lakeview Monday and hosts Mercer Thursday. Mercer also plays Sharon and Sharon has West Middlesex. Plenty of possible scenarios here but Sharpsville can clinch a share of the region title tonight and win it outright Thursday.
Region 3 – With Conneaut ineligible to win the region title, the race is down to Saegertown and Cochranton. Saegertown (8-3) can clinch a share of the region title tonight against Youngsville, while Cochranton (7-3) needs to win at Maplewood Tuesday and Conneaut Thursday to share the region title.
Region 4 – General McLane (11-1) appears to be in control of Region 4 with two games left. The Lancers travel to Seneca tonight and host Northwestern Thursday. North East (10-2) is one game behind and plays Iroquois and Fairview this week. McLane needs one win for a share of the region title and two wins to win the region outright.
Region 6 – Villa Maria has already clinched a share of the region title and needs one win in its final two region games to win the region outright. The Victors host Warren and Fort LeBoeuf this week. Warren is two games behind but would need to beat Villa and get some help to share the region title.
