Erie Times-News Breakout Athlete of the Week nominees

Fans can vote for the Breakout Athlete of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. with the winners being featured in the Erie Times-News. Fans are encouraged to nominate athletes by 5 p.m. each Saturday by sending an e-mail to Athletes who have won this season are no longer eligible.

Steve Piston, Hickory – Went 4-for-4 at the plate and pitched a complete game as the Hornets beat Wilmington 6-4.
Zach Bigley, Lakeview – Tossed a four-hit shutout, including five strikeouts, as the Sailors beat Jamestown 10-0.
Taylor Lenzi, Sharpsville – Pitched a four-hit shutout as the Blue Devils picked up a big 2-0 win over Sharon.
Mike Ginther, West Middlesex – Struck out 13 and allowed only three hits to pick up the win in a 9-1 win over Commodore Perry.
Jacob Fiscus, Kennedy Catholic – Had three hits and two RBIs in an 11-1 win over Rocky Grove.
Nick Carlo, Sharon – Drilled a one-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Tigers a 6-5 win over Reynolds.
Jayce Corklin, Titusville – Drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 3-2 win over Franklin.
Nick Emerson, Franklin – Had four hits, including a three-run homer, in a 14-1 win over Iroquois.
Tom McCloskey, Meadville – Tossed a perfect game in a 3-0 win over Slippery Rock.
Jeremy Santarelli, Conneaut – Drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning in an 8-7 win over Meadville.
Matt Thompson, Saegertown – Hit a grand slam and threw a no-hitter in a 12-0 win over Union City.
Zack Borsa, McDowell – Allowed one run in a complete-game effort on the mound as the Trojans knocked off Warren 2-1.
Jay Clinger, Northwestern – Had a walkoff RBI hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Wildcats a 5-4 win over Seneca.
Todd Goss, Harbor Creek - Had a walkoff three-run homer to give the Huskies an 8-6 win over General McLane.
Evan Dillen, General McLane – Had three hits and an RBI in an 8-5 win over Conneaut.
Justyn Roda, Iroquois – Finished with three hits and scored two runs in a 16-3 win over Youngsville.
Nolan Roberts, Fairview – Struck out two in a two-hitter as the Tigers beat North East 4-1.
Ian Pertz, Mercyhurst Prep – Had a big first week with five hits in seven at-bats along with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Josh Greggs, Fort LeBoeuf – Hit a walkoff RBI single to give the Bison a 3-2 win over Girard.
Carter Cross, Cathedral Prep – Hit for the cycle and earned the win on the mound with eight strikeouts as the Ramblers beat East 17-1.

Eugena Davies, Sharpsville - Drilled an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Blue Devils a 4-3 walkoff win.
Mallory Torr, Sharon – Ripped a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead the Tigers to a 6-5 win over Lakeview.
Melissa Shoemaker, Mercer – Tossed a two-hit shutout in a 10-0 win over Jamestown.
Hailey Gearhart, Reynolds – Pitched a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Commodore Perry. She had 11 strikeouts as well.
Maddie Elberty, Grove City – Fired a two-hit shutout as the Eagles beat Meadville 10-0.
Emilee Taylor, Kennedy Catholic – Had 10 strikeouts and allowed two hits in a complete-game win as the Golden Eagles beat Commodore Perry 3-2. She also had a two-hitter on the mound in a 16-2 win over Farrell.
Chelsea Marriott, Hickory – Went 3-for-3, including two doubles and two RBIs in a 10-4 win over Grove City.
Megan Bowser, Titusville – Was a double short of the cycle in a 10-1 win over Youngsville.
Izzy Romanowski, Franklin – Tossed a four-hitter and struck out five in a 5-1 win over Eisenhower.
Katie Gustafson, Youngsville – Went 3-for-4 with two triples in a 6-2 win over Rocky Grove.
Raven Rozantz, Fairview – Tossed a five-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Harbor Creek. She also struck out 18 and had two hits in a 6-0 win over Seneca.
Anna Brinling, Harbor Creek – Had a pinch-hit, two-run single in the seventh inning to lead the Huskies to a 2-0 win over Northwestern.
Tori Prather, North East - Drove in three runs to help the Grapepickers beat Seneca 7-4. She also had an RBI single in the sixth inning to help the ‘Pickers come back and beat General McLane 3-2.
Kristina Szczesny, Central Tech – Had three hits and drove in a run in a 4-1 win over Mercyhurst Prep.
Madalyn Nicols, Maplewood – Finished with two hits, three runs scored and three RBIs in an 8-1 win over Cambridge Springs.
Rachel DiBartolomeo, Saegertown – Had three hits, one run and one RBI in a 10-2 win over Union City.
Hannah Tombaugh, Iroquois – Finished with three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs in a 10-0 win over Youngsville.
Alexa Bupp, Warren – Went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs and a home run and struck out 12 in a complete-game win as the Dragons beat McDowell 9-1.
Shannon Baker, Corry - Hit two home runs, including a grand slam, to finish with three hits, eight RBIs and three runs in a 24-2 win over Slippery Rock. She also tossed a one-hit shutout in an 11-0 win over Meadville.
Emily Luteran, Villa Maria – Hit a two-run homer and tossed a complete game on the mound in a 5-3 win over Seneca. She also had a three-run homer in an 8-5 win over Girard.
Mackenzie Hewett, McDowell – Tossed a two-hit shutout in a 6-0 win over Strong Vincent.
Amanda Krolczyk, Fort LeBoeuf – Pitched a no-hitter as the Bison beat Central Tech 5-3.
McKenzie Fails, Girard – Struck out 10 and had two hits at the plate in a 4-2 win over General McLane.
Chelsea Czerwinski, Mercyhurst Prep – Hit an inside-the-park grand slam in a 20-2 win over East.

Boys track and field
Luke Patten, West Middlesex – Won three events in a rout of Brookfield. He won the 200, the pole vault and ran a leg in the 400 relay.
Kevin Jancsar, Hickory - Had four event wins in a win over Greenville, including the 800, the 1,600 and two relay wins.
Dwight Scott, Wilmington – Won four events as the Greyhounds beat Mercer. Scott won the 100, the 400 and two relays.
Devon Workman, Lakeview – Had three event wins, including the 1,600, the 3,200 and the 3,200 relay, in wins over Sharon, George Junior, Kennedy Catholic and Commodore Perry.
Austin King, Oil City - Won three events in a win over Fort LeBoeuf, including the 800, the 1,600 and was on the 3,200 relay.
Kyle McKeen, Northwestern – Won the high jump, the triple jump and the long jump at the Hickory Invitational.
Zach Cartwright, Franklin – Won the pole vault title at the Hickory Invitational.
Bailey Moore, Girard – Ran a speedy time of 23.94 seconds to win the 200 at the Hickory Invitational.
Luke Wortman, Warren – Won the 400 and ran on the winning 1,600 relay team at the Hickory Invitational.
Ryan Smathers, North East – Dominated the field in the 800 and the 1,600 at the Hickory Invitational.
Jared Hazen, Titusville – Won the 3,200 at the Hickory Invitational.
Kyle Trinch, Grove City – Won both hurdle events at the Hickory Invitational.
Malik Moffett, Cathedral Prep – Won the high jump at the TSTCA Invitational.

Girls track and field
Chloe Tyillian, West Middlesex – Set a school record in the 3,200 with a time of 12:14.3. She also won the 1,600 in a win over Brookfield.
Lexi Bible, Hickory – Won three events in a win over Greenville, including the 1,600, the 3,200 and a leg in the 3,200 relay.
Rebekah Petty, Greenville – Had three event wins in a loss to Hickory. She won the pole vault, the 100 and a leg in the 400 relay.
Abby Jones, Franklin – Set a school record in the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 7 1/2 inches in a loss to Warren. She also won the high jump and the triple jump at the Hickory Invitational.
Mary Jaskowak, Grove City – Won two titles at the Hickory Invitational.
Julie Falvo, Wilmington – Won the discus at the Hickory Invitational.
Kristy Isbicki, Seneca – Took home the javelin title at the Hickory Invitational.
Aster Chmielewski, Slippery Rock – Won the 300 hurdles and ran in the winning 1,600 relay in the Hickory Invitational.
Eve Gardner, Union City – Won the 200 in the Hickory Invitational.
Bethany Evankovich, General McLane – Although she is a freshman she ran a terrific 400 race and won at the Hickory Invitational.
Sarah Kupniewski, Mercyhurst Prep – Won the 800 at the Hickory Invitational.
Anne Lewis, North East - Took home the 1,600 title at the Hickory Invitational.

Spring athlete
Matt Welker, Grove City tennis – He continues to dominate at No. 1 singles this season. Welker won his match against Hickory 6-0, 6-1. He then outlasted Greenville’s Chad Ferguson in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 as the Eagles beat the Trojans 4-1. Welker also had a 6-0, 6-0 win against Kennedy Catholic.
Nickolo Lima, Kennedy Catholic tennis - Won his No. 1 singles match 6-2,6-2 against Sharon.
Chad Ferguson, Greenville tennis - Is having another big year at No. 1 singles. He won 6-0, 6-0 against Sharon.
Noah Jones, Rocky Grove volleyball – Had 16 kills and nine blocks in a four-set win over Fort LeBoeuf. He then had 16 kills and 15 blocks in a huge upset of Cochranton.
Emma Kocjancic, Fairview lacrosse – Scored four goals in an 18-12 win over Allderdice.
Josh Mack, Cathedral Prep lacrosse – Had six goals in a 14-5 win over Cardinal Mooney.
Nick Ward, Cathedral Prep tennis – Is having a great year at No. 1 singles and picked up a key win in a 3-2 win over McDowell.
Noah Uplinger, Conneaut volleyball - Drilled six kills in a sweep of Fort LeBoeuf.
Jake Carniewski, McDowell volleyball – Had 30 assists in a four-set win loss to Meadville.
Logan Mooney, Rocky Grove volleyball – Finished with 24 assists and five kills in a four-set win over Fort LeBoeuf.
