Erie Times-News Breakout Athlete of the Week nominees

Fans can vote for the Breakout Athlete of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. with the winners being featured in the Erie Times-News. Fans are encouraged to nominate athletes by 5 p.m. each Saturday by sending an e-mail to Athletes who have won this season are no longer eligible.

Tyler Wansack, Sharpsville – Had three hits, including a three-run home run in a 14-3 win over Commodore Perry. He finished with six RBIs.
Jacob Leipheimer, Kennedy Catholic – Finished 3-for-4 and needed only a home run for the cycle in an 11-1 win over Lakeview.
Matt Gordon, Grove City – Threw a one-hit shutout, including 16 strikeouts, in a 12-0 win over Conneaut. He also went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs.
Breck Schneider, Rocky Grove – Had two hits and two RBIs in a big 6-3 win over Jamestown.
Adam Bleday, Titusville – Tossed a one-hit shutout, including 10 strikeouts, in a 13-0 win over Iroquois.
Coty Cantral, Eisenhower – Went 3-for-3, scored two runs and drove in one in a 6-2 upset of Titusville.
Derek Brady, Strong Vincent – Recorded two hits and two RBIs in the Colonels’ 10-5 victory over East on April 22.
Mitchell Fife, Harbor Creek – Hit the game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Huskies’ 4-3 eight-inning victory over Warren on April 22.
Chris Francis, Cathedral Prep – Drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning, and also was the winning pitcher in relief of the Ramblers’ 4-3 victory over McDowell at Jerry Uht Park on April 25.
Breyton Graves, Central Tech – Pitched a complete game in the Falcons’ 11-2 victory over General McLane on April 22.
Eric Niedzwiecki, Mercyhurst Prep – Hit a two-run single in the top of the eighth inning of the Lakers’ 5-2 victory at North East on April 22.
Jake Wolf, McDowell – Hit a two-run homer in the Trojans’ 8-1 victory at Grove City on April 22.
Garrett Zajac, Corry – Had two hits, and RBI and scored a run in the Beavers’ 4-3 win over Girard on April 22.

Victoria Tomko, Hickory – Had an RBI double in the sixth inning to drive in the go-ahead run in a 3-2 win over Wilmington.
Kristi Sestak, Grove City – Finished with three hits and two RBIs in a 6-4 extra-inning loss to Lakeview.
Melissa Shoemaker, Mercer – Tossed a 2-hitter as the Lady M’s upset Wilmington.
Paige Baker, Reynolds – Threw a two-hit shutout as the Raiders beat Kennedy Catholic 9-0. She also had two hits and struck out eight.
Rachel Harenchar, Sharpsville – Crushed two home runs to help the Blue Devils beat Reynolds 13-10.
Shania Ditzenberger, Rocky Grove – Doubled in the tying run in the seventh inning before scoring the go-ahead run in a 2-1 upset of Titusville.
Cynthia Hoover, Franklin – Went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in a 13-3 win over Youngsville.
Shana Grosch, Titusville – Had four hits and earned the win on the mound in an 18-6 win over Eisenhower.
Sydney Adams, Northwestern – Went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in the Wildcats’ 8-5 victory at Seneca on April 26.
Harlie Bolt, Girard – Recorded two hits and scored three runs in the YellowJackets’ 9-3 victory over Cambridge Springs on April 22.
Katie Clark, General McLane – Scored twice in an eight-run third inning for the Lancers, who beat Villa Maria 12-1 on April 26.
Morgan Fisher, North East – Drove in the winning run for the Grapepickers’ 2-1 victory over Northwestern on April 22.
Crystal Flagg, McDowell – Went 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored during the Trojans’ 9-1 win over Central Tech on April 22.
Haley Hess, Strong Vincent – Pitched a five-inning, no-hitter against Central Tech in the Colonels’ 16-0 victory April 25.
Allie Kaliszewski, Iroquois – Went 3-for-5 with a home run in the Braves’ 6-5 victory over Titusville on April 22.
Hannah Kondrlik, Corry – Drove in three runs on two hits and also scored once in the the Beavers’ 7-3 victory at Hickory on April 27.
Holly Miller, Harbor Creek – Recorded three hits, including a double, in the Huskies’ 6-1 over Seneca on April 23.
Amanda Krolczyk, Fort LeBoeuf - Pitched a complete game for the Bison in their 3-2 win over Warren on April 22.
Raven Rozantz, Fairview – Tossed several impressive games this week and had a big two-run single against North East on Thursday.

Boys track and field
Clay Allen, West Middlesex – Won four events in a win over Wilmington. He also had four medals at the Mars Invitational, including winning the 100 title.
Matt Cragg, Corry - Won the 100 and 200 and placed fifth in the javelin at the McDowell Invitational.
Sebastian Curtin, Mercyhurst Prep – Won the 3,200-meter run (10:02.50) at the McDowell Invitational.
Jake DeHart, Cathedral Prep – Won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and also comprised a leg of the Ramblers’ victorious 400 relay team during their 115-35 victory over Mercyhurst Prep on April 23.
Marcus Erdman, General McLane – Won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (41.73) at the McDowell Invitational.
Ben McGill, Seneca – Won the shot put (47-3/4) competition at the McDowell Invitational.
Corey Twichel, Girard – Anchored the YellowJackets’ 1,600- and 3,200-meter relay teams to first place in the teams’ 81-60 win over General McLane on April 23.
Tyler Wickham, Meadville – Won the discus (136-6) competition at the McDowell Invitational on April 27.
Gary Olson, North East - Won the 3,200 at the Franklin Invitational.

Girls track and field
Abby Jones, Franklin – Won all three jumping events in a win over Titusville.
Caitlin Plazoney, Fairview – Won the 1,600 at the McDowell Invitational.
Bethany Evankovich, General McLane – ran the 400 in 59.32 seconds to win the title at the McDowell Invitational.
Sarah Kupniewski, Mercyhurst Prep – Beat the field by six seconds to win the 800 at the McDowell Invitational.
Jaynee Corbett, Corry – Won the shot put at the McDowell Invitational with a distance of 41 feet, 5 1/4 inches.
Samantha Black, Seneca – Upset Corbett in the discus with a toss of 131 feet at the McDowell Invitational.
Abby Rose, Fort LeBoeuf - Won the javelin at the McDowell Invitational.
Eve Gardner, Union City – Won four events for the Bears during their 79-71 victory over Youngsville on April 23.
Bernadette Prichard, Villa Maria - Was part of two winning relays and finished first in the 1,600 meters during the Victors’ 129-22 win over Mercyhurst Prep on April 23.
Madi Turiczek, North East – Won the shot put and discus competitions during the Grapepickers’ 79-64 victory over Fairview on April 23.

Spring athlete
Chad Ferguson, Greenville tennis – Continued his dominant season at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Greenville. He then won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles against Greenville.
Matt Welker, Grove City tennis – Won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles against Mercyhurst Prep. He also won 6-0, 6-0 against Kennedy Catholic and against Titusville.
Jalen Scott, Farrell volleyball – Had 15 kills and 34 assists in a five-set loss to Cambridge Springs.
Noah Jones, Rocky Grove volleyball – Finished with 21 kills and six blocks in a four-set loss to Maplewood. He also had 17 kills and 11 blocks in a win over Fort LeBoeuf.
Shane Burns, Warren tennis – Won 6-1, 6-0 as part of the Dragons’ 5-0 victory April 22.
Jake Carniewski, McDowell volleyball – Recorded 17 assists in the Trojans’ three-game victory at Fort LeBoeuf on April 23. He also had 42 assists in a four-set win over Cochranton.
Nick Ward, Cathedral Prep tennis – Won at No. 1 singles in a close 3-2 win over rival McDowell.
Trevor Osborne, Harbor Creek tennis – Won 6-0, 6-0 as part of the Huskies’ 5-0 victory April 23.
Clay Skelton, Erie Spears lacrosse – Scored four goals in the Spears’ 8-3 victory over Niagara Falls (N.Y.) on April 22.
Ben Westcott, Fairview tennis – Won 6-0, 6-0 in a 5-0 victory that clinched a perfect Region 3 record for the Tigers on April 26.
Nate Wigton, Cochranton volleyball – Had 36 assists in a four-set loss McDowell.
Shane Rigby, Saegertown volleyball – Recorded 10 kills in a four-set win over Fort LeBoeuf.
Derek Thomas, McDowell lacrosse – Scored 10 goals in two big wins.
Connor Cross, Fairview lacrosse – Had six goals in a 14-3 win over West Geauga.
Josh Mack, Cathedral Prep lacrosse – Scored 34 seconds into overtime to help the Ramblers knock off McDowell 10-9.
