Girls
Coach: Bob Messina (7th season, 43-93)
2012-13 overall record: 11-13
2012-13 region record: 5-5 (tied for second)
2012-13 playoff results: Defeated Eisenhower 51-50 in the District 10 Class A quarterfinals before losing to Kennedy Catholic 68-28 in the semifinals.
Top players lost: Kate Powell, Lexi Grinnell
Top returning players: Emily Kitchen, Autumn Campbell, Stephanie Vaughn, Devon Sernik, Courtney Beachy, Alexis Nagy, Shae Grinnell, Sarah Nagy, Shayna Stringert
Assistant coach: Brittany Totin
Outlook: The Commodore Perry girls basketball program has become a yearly contender for the playoffs. The Panthers have made the postseason three straight seasons and they are continuing to build each year. Commodore Perry coach Bob Messina will have some work to do in camp as the Panthers graduated two-time all-region selections Kate Powell and Lexi Grinnell. Grinnell was voted to the first team, while Powell made the second team. Commodore Perry has an experienced group back in Emily Kitchen, Autumn Campbell, Stephanie Vaughn, Devon Sernik, Courtney Beachy, Alexis Nagy, Shae Grinnell, Sarah Nagy and Shayna Stringert. Kitchen, Campbell and Beachy are senior leaders, while Sernik and Nagy are junior contributors. The Panthers also have a strong sophomore class in Vaughn, Grinnell, Nagy and Stringert. Commodore Perry could also receive contributions from freshman Brittany Shrock. The Panthers lost their top two scorers but have three returning starters in Kitchen, Campbell and Vaughn. Commodore Perry has more players out for the team this year with 15 players, creating more depth and competition for playing time. The Panthers are in a tough region that seems to produce the District 10 champion each season. If Commodore Perry can develop some leaders to replace the scoring of Powell and Lexi Grinnell, they could be headed back to the postseason this winter.
