McBride, Elia advance to PIAA semifinals

Brittany McBride and Katie Elia will return to the PIAA Class AA semifinals Saturday morning after winning their quarterfinal match this afternoon. The two finished in third place last year.

The McDowell doubles team of Larissa Chen and Lauren Fadden won 6-1, 6-1 over Rachel Tygh and Stef Barkofski of Archbishop Carroll in the PIAA Class AAA first round. Chen and Fadden will play at 5 p.m. against Katherine Devlin and Christie Cesarini of Wisshickon.

McDowell’s Adrianna Jeffress falls in the first round of PIAA Class AAA singles. Jeffress lost to Archbishop Ryan’s Julianne Herman 6-4, 6-2.

The McDowell doubles team of Larissa Chen and Lauren Fadden are in action right now.

The Mercyhurst Prep tennis duo of Brittany McBride and Katie Elia easily won their PIAA first-round match this morning 6-2, 6-3 over Greensburg Central Catholic duo Alyvia Kluska and Jordan Smithberger. McBride and Elia move on to the PIAA Class AA semifinals today at 3 p.m. against Kara and Mia Chyung of Moravian Academy. McBride and Elia finished in third place in the PIAA tournament last year.

Mercyhurst Prep junior Lauren Petrella lost her first-round match today in Hershey. Michaela Kluska of Greensburg Central Catholic won 6-0, 6-1.

The Class AAA singles and doubles are taking place right now. Adrianna Jeffress is representing McDowell in the singles bracket, while Larissa Chen and Lauren Fadden are in the doubles bracket.
