Girard-Sharon football game cancelled

Today’s 1 p.m. District 10 Class AA football game between the Girard YellowJackets and the Sharon Tigers at Veterans Stadium will not take place because of the death of two Sharon football players Friday night.

District 10 secretary Pete Iacino e-mailed the news to the Times Publishing Company sports department at 12:26 a.m., which was after the Erie Times-News went to press. The following statements were included in Iacino’s e-mail:

“Late Friday night there was a car accident involving 4 Sharon High School football players. At this time 2 of the students are know to have been killed. The two other students have been taken to an area hospital.

Because of this very tragic accident, the Sharon-Girard playoff football game scheduled for Saturday November 9th had been cancelled.

Our thoughts and payers are with the families of those killed and injured and with the entire Sharon High School community.”

Here’s more coverage of the accident from the Sharon Herald.

Check with for more details later today.
