Sometimes you can’t empathize, say or do much, but acknowledgement by a kind work and simple human touch can make a connection and help the healing. Good for him and may the Lord comfort those who have suffered loss.

It always warms my heart to see things like this. That quarterback didn’t have to go over to the other player. He could have been celebrating with his team and no one would have faulted him for that. But to see one player reaching out to another, even for just a moment, is always a wonderful site to see. More players need to learn to act like that.

  3. Lucinda says:

I have watched this video over and over again and I have cried every time I watched it. To be honest I was rooting for Sharon to win and it broke my heart for the team and the Sharon community and the families of the boys to see them lose with seconds left in the game.

Then when I saw Girard start to celebrate and watch the players running up to Joe Dunn as he was walking toward the Sharon player everyone just stopped.

Personally I will never forget that moment as Joe reached out to the Sharon player. It was such a special moment with the compassion that he showed and I hope that others learn that it is not always about winning and losing, in my eyes they were all winners on the field that day.

  4. Robert C Buser says:

I can see that my nephew raised a very good son. Joe, you are a true credit to the Dunn family and too Girard High School. God bless you and your family and the families of the Sharon players lost in that terrible accident.
