Lakeview opponent seeks its own history

District 7 champion North Catholic and District 9 titlist Clarion are the only football teams with perfect records going into this weekend’s PIAA Class A quarterfinals. Each are 13-0, with Clarion set to face District 10 winner Lakeview.

The Sailors, thanks to a 27-0 shutout of Sharpsville, will line up in a state playoff for the first time when they play Saturday at 1 p.m. at Slippery Rock University’s Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. They’ll face a Clarion team that has the chance to become District 9′s first-ever state champion, regardless of class.

Only two District 9 programs have ever reached a PIAA final, each at the Class A level. District 2 Dunmore routed Keystone 57-18 in 1989, and District 3 Scotland School defeated Smethport 24-7 in 1992.
