Vote for your favorite in the poll at upper right. Voting will continue through Tuesday night. Here are the nominees:

Justin Wiley, Cathedral Prep: Ran 12 times for 175 yards, including TD runs of 13, 52, 4 and 76 yards. He also caught three passes for 78 yards, including a 64-yard TD.

Dion Eilam, Farrell: The wide receiver showed his versatility in Farrell’s 12th straight win. Ran 40 yards for a TD and threw a 39-yard TD pass.

Sutton Whiting, Wilmington: Rushed 10 times for 195 yards, including TD runs of 44 and 59 yards.

Jason Ondic, Sharon: Rushed 20 times for 178 yards, including a TD run of 15 yards.

Nick Lombardo, General McLane: Rushed nine times for 87 yards and a touchdown. Completed 6-of-12 passes for 46 yards and nearly helped McLane rally in the final moments.

Note: Jimmy Bailey of North East is not eligible for the award because he is a former winner. Bailey caught a 39-yard TD pass, returned a kickoff 94 yards for a TD and ran 48 yards for a score.

-With 7 minutes to go in the first quarter, the game is still scoreless. State College couldn’t do anything with its first two possessions, while McDowell fumbled on its first possession.

McDowell 7, State College 0: With 5:43 left in the first, Dejon Young takes a pitch and goes 48 yards for a Trojan touchdown.

McDowell 7, State College 7: Little Lions put together a methodical drive and score on an 18-yard touchdown pass. 1:37 left in the first.

McDowell 7, State College 7: The first quarter has come to an end. The Trojans are driving around midfield to open the second.

McDowell 7, State College 7: Alex Kenney intercepts Zach Greenawalt who was trying to find speedster Mike Bizzarro. State College takes over at the 3.

McDowell 7, State College 7: The Little Lions are running a new formation and are finding a lot of success. State College started the drive on its 3 and is in Trojan territory now.

McDowell 7, State College 7: The Trojans’ defense holds steady and forces a punt. 7:08 left in the half, McDowell will start at its 20.

McDowell 7, State College 7: McDowell fumbles again and State College will take over at the Trojan 30.

McDowell 7, State College 7: 5:35 left in the half, timeout McDowell.

McDowell 7, State College 7: McDowell stops State College at the 27 on fourth down. Trojans take over with five minutes left in the half.

McDowell 7, State College 7: McDowell burns its second timeout before facing a 3rd and 5. 3:19 left in the half.

McDowell 7, State College 7: Garmon gains a first down on his first carry of the afternoon. McDowell is at the 43 with the clock still moving.

McDowell 7, State College 7: McDowell converts a 4th and 1 into State College territory. Under 1:30 left in the half.

McDowell 7, State College 7: McDowell is struggling with its clock management. Only a few seconds left in the half at the 30.

McDowell 7, State College 7: Greenawalt is sacked to end the half. Halftime at DuBois’ E.J. Mansell Stadium.

McDowell 7, State College 7: Early in the third quarter, McDowell goes three and out but does a hard count on fourth down. It appeared State College went offside, but McDowell is flagged. The Trojans are forced to punt and State College takes over at the 34.

McDowell 7, State College 7: After the Little Lions are stopped on two straight plays, McDowell is called for roughing the passer. State College has a first down at the McDowell 49. The Little Lions then fumble, but fall on it quickly.

McDowell 7, State College 7: State College comes up with a big pass on third down. The Little Lions are at the McDowell 39 with seven minutes left in the third.

State College 13, McDowell 7: The Little Lions put together a terrific drive and takes the lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Colby Way with 3:51 left in the third. The extra point was partially blocked and no good.

State College 13, McDowell 7: The momentum is really shifting right now as the Trojans look confused on offense. McDowell goes 3 and out. State College takes over at the 25.

State College 13, McDowell 7: The Little Lions are starting to dictate the flow of the game now. State College breaks a few good runs and long completion to get to the McDowell 42 with one minute left in the third.

State College 13, McDowell 7: At the end of three quarters. State College has the ball on the other side of the 50 to start the fourth.

State College 13, McDowell 7: The Little Lions are bleeding the clock and driving the ball. State College is inside McDowell’s 20.

State College 16, McDowell 7: McDowell holds the Little Lions inside the 10-yard line. Kevin DiSanto comes on to nail a 24-yard field goal. 6:44 left in the game.

State College 16, McDowell 7: McDowell is starting to put something together with a long pass to Mike Bizzarro. The Trojans are out to their 47.

State College 16, McDowell 7: Greenawalt is intercepted by Shane Dorner. State College takes over at the 39.

State College 16, McDowell 7: McDowell’s defense stands tall and forces a fourth down. However, the Trojans are almost out of timeouts and there are four minutes left.

State College 16, McDowell 7: Aaron Sallade pins McDowell back onto its 10-yard line.

State College 16, McDowell 7: Trojans are moving the ball. McDowell is out to the 37 but there are less than 3 minutes left.

State College 16, McDowell 7: Zach Greenawalt runs down to the State College 30 with 2:20 left.

State College 16, McDowell 7: Greenawalt is intercepted once again by Jake Moyer with 1:44 left. State College will likely kneel on the ball to end McDowell’s season.

Oil City Oilers
Boys
Coach (season, record): Jason Fulmer (2nd season, 9-13)
2008-09 overall record: 9-13
2008-09 region record (place): 4-10 (tied for seventh)
Top players lost: Nolan Carll, Larry Heim, Matt May (first-team all-region), Steven Plumer, Willie Winger, Aaron Stucke-Heiser
Top returning players: G/F Jake Davis sr., G/F Stephen May sr., G/F Dallas Williams jr., G Logan Lantz jr.
Key games: Jan. 26 at Franklin, Feb. 19 vs. Franklin
Outlook: Oil City lost several key players to graduation including 6-foot, 7-inch Matt May. The Oilers are back this season smaller, but possibly more athletic. Dallas Williams emerged as a star on the football field this year and could translate his athletic abilities onto the court. Throw in some of his football teammates such as Stephen May and Logan Lantz and the Oilers could have plenty of chemistry on the court. Oil City hung tough in one of the best regions in basketball last season and could use a hard schedule to its advantage. Oil City will ease into things with games at Titusville and Warren, while hosting VisionQuest. Things get very tough after the end of 2009 though. The Oilers open 2010 with Sharon before traveling to Grove City and hosting Class AAAA George Junior. Oil City will have no easy games in ‘10, but could be a dangerous team around playoff time if the Oilers survive their schedule.

Girls
Coach (season, record): Tom Bodamer (3rd season, 13-30)
2008-09 overall record: 7-14
2008-09 region record (place): 4-10 (sixth)
Top players lost: Chelsea Clyde, Mallory McKissick, Shaina Sandrock
Top returning players: G/F Becca Weidle sr., G Mya Hidinger sr. (first-team all-region), G/F Kaitlyn Knight sr., F Katie Plumer sr., F Kaity Wenner sr., G Amanda Wassil sr., G Eric Wassil jr.
Key games: Jan. 4 vs. Sharon, Jan. 11 vs. Hickory, Jan. 25 at Franklin
Outlook: Oil City could have a turnaround season with plenty of experience returning. The Oilers lost only three players to graduation and have first-team, all-region selection Mya Hidinger back. Oil City’s biggest problem is dealing with a very talented region of Class AAA teams. The Oilers will be comfortable during the first part of the year as they won’t have to hit the road until Jan. 8. Oil City will finish 2009 with six home games before hosting Sharon on Jan. 4. A true test for the Oilers will come at the end of January. Oil City will hit the road to take on Meadville, Franklin and Sharon in one week’s time. If the Oilers can use their depth to develop solid team chemistry early in the season, they could be a team to reckon with in Region 5.

Sunday: Reynolds

The Cathedral Prep football team was a winner on the field Friday night, while also getting a small victory off it.

The Ramblers rolled to their first District 10 Class AAA title and the 16th in program history with a 47-21 victory over Grove City at Veterans Stadium. Now 10-2 overall, Prep will begin PIAA play next weekend against 10-1 Schenley, the Pittsburgh City League champion.

That will be a first-round game in the state’s AAA bracket, held at a site and time to be determined.

It’s the quarterfinals where Prep got potential help Friday. While the Ramblers were eliminating Grove City, West Allegheny was doing likewise to Thomas Jefferson.

West Allegheny (10-2) ended the Jaguars’ bid for a third straight state championship with a 28-21 victory in the District 7 AAA semifinals at Chartiers Valley High School. The Imperial school will face Hopewell (12-0) in the WPIAL championship game Nov. 27 at Heinz Field.

Thomas Jefferson beat Strong Vincent in state play en route to its 2007 and 2008 PIAA AAA championships.
