Summer Huddle: Maplewood

Maplewood Tigers
Coach (season, record): Matt Crocker (6th season, 16-34)
2010 overall record: 6-4
2010 region record (place): 4-4 (fifth)
2010 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Jake Snyder, Jacob Potts, Josh Davis, Daishawn Mewborn
Top returning players: Nate Klingler, Logan Battin, Dakota Keeno, Kevin Coatoam, Eric Willey, Mitch Worley
Assistant coaches: Harry Zurasky, Nate Albert, Mike Reynolds, Matt Mangus
Outlook: Maplewood started 2010 as one of the hottest teams in District 10. The Tigers won their first five games before struggling in the second half to miss the playoffs. Jake Snyder, Jacob Potts, Josh Davis and Daishawn Mewborn graduated leaving pretty big holes to fill for the Tigers. Nate Klingler is back after taking over as quarterback late last season. He is joined in the backfield by Kevin Coatoam, while Dakota Keeno, Eric Willey and Mitch Worley are back to anchor the offensive and defensive lines. Logan Battin is a leader for the Tigers and is a solid player on defense. Maplewood’s defense will be a strength this season but the Tigers need a few underclassmen to step into big roles on offense. Maplewood hopes to use training camp to work on fundamentals and work on offensive chemistry.
